It’s not just a surface finish — it’s a high-molecular polymer lubricant that reduces insertion torque by up to 52% compared to uncoated screws, which translates directly to less strain on your driver, fewer stripped heads, and faster work through the day. Rust protection is up to 20 times better than standard zinc plating, which matters anywhere screws are going into treated timber, damp environments, or anywhere you’d rather not be back pulling failed fixings in two years’ time.
What Makes Timco C2 StrongFix Screws Different
The ribs under the head do two things well. They cut cleanly into the material as the screw seats, giving a flush, tidy finish without needing to overdrive, and they reduce the risk of splitting near edges — useful when you’re fixing close to the end of a board. The deep recess prevents cam-out, which on a long day with a lot of screws in is more than just a convenience.
Thread design is dual-angle throughout, giving high pull-out resistance without needing to go up a size. All sizes up to and including 75mm are fully threaded. From 80mm upwards, there’s a 70mm thread length, which keeps bite where it counts in longer fixings.
Available in a comprehensive range from 3.5 x 12mm right through to 6.0 x 200mm, with boxes of 100 or 200 depending on size.
Pro Tip: When fixing into MDF or engineered boards near edges, the ribs under the C2 head do a good job of reducing splitting, but pre-drilling a pilot hole with a 2.5mm bit in the final 20mm before the head seats will give you a cleaner result every time.

Not suitable for: Not suitable for fixing into masonry, concrete, or metal without appropriate pilot drilling and the correct screw type. These are wood fixings and should not be used as a structural replacement for coach bolts or timber connectors in load-bearing applications.
No pre-drilling is required in most softwood applications. For hardwood, dense engineered boards, or when fixing close to edges, a pilot hole reduces the risk of splitting and makes seating the head cleaner. Use a Pozi PZ2 bit for sizes up to 4.5mm diameter, and a PZ3 for 5.0mm and 6.0mm.
Drive at a moderate speed with good downward pressure to keep the bit seated in the recess. The polymer coating does most of the work in terms of friction reduction, so there is no need to force the screw. Let the thread do the pulling.
Select the correct size for your application, matching screw length to at least twice the thickness of the material being fixed where possible.
For hardwood, MDF edges, or fixing near board ends, drill a pilot hole slightly smaller than the screw shank diameter.
Fit a Pozi PZ2 bit for screws up to 4.5mm diameter, or PZ3 for 5.0mm and 6.0mm.
Position the screw and apply firm downward pressure on the driver before starting.
Drive at a controlled speed, allowing the thread to pull the screw through rather than forcing it.
Stop when the ribs under the head have seated flush with the surface — avoid overdriving, particularly in MDF or chipboard.
Do I need to pre-drill before using Timco C2 StrongFix screws in timber?
