The Mains Water Stopcock Label Tag VP101 is one of those small things that gets overlooked until someone is standing in a flooded kitchen at 11pm trying to work out which way to turn the valve. Simple product. Genuinely useful. It does exactly what it says on the… label.

Made from rigid plastic, the tag measures 54mm wide by 85mm high — large enough to read quickly, small enough to sit neatly on any stopcock valve without getting in the way. The text is black on white, with a clean black border, and it reads: Mains Water Stopcock. Anti Clockwise for On. Clockwise for Off. There is also a pictogram showing the turn direction, which is arguably more useful than the text in a panic situation. No guessing, no second-guessing.

Each tag comes supplied with a 100mm plastic cable tie so it can be attached to the valve or pipework immediately on installation. No separate fixings to source, no fiddling about. Fit it and forget it.

Where the Mains Water Stopcock Label Tag Earns Its Keep

Plumbers fitting new stopcocks will often leave one of these behind as a matter of course. It is also common practice during building inspections, landlord compliance checks, and new-build handovers where clear valve identification is expected. Facilities managers and maintenance teams find them useful for labelling valves in utility cupboards, plant rooms, and communal areas where anyone might need to isolate the water supply quickly.

At under 50p a tag, there is really no reason not to fit one. A few seconds on installation can save a significant amount of time and stress further down the line — and on a job where you are fitting multiple valves, bulk ordering these makes obvious sense.

The VP101 is a straightforward, well-specified identification tag that carries the right information in a clear, durable format. If you are working to a standard or handing a job over to a client, this is the kind of detail that shows the work was done properly.

Pro Tip: Fix the cable tie to the pipework just behind the valve rather than directly to the stopcock body, so the tag remains readable and does not rotate when the valve is operated.
