DAMCOR Insulated DPC is a dual-purpose product designed specifically for one of the most overlooked problem areas in cavity wall construction: the closed cavity at window and door reveals. When the cavity is closed using returned blockwork, you lose the insulation layer at that point. The result is a cold bridge, condensation on the reveal, and eventually staining or mould growth that no amount of repainting will fix long-term. DAMCOR addresses both issues in a single strip, acting as a thermal break and a vertical DPC at the same time.
The product is made up of an insulating core bonded to a damp proof membrane, so it deals with heat loss and moisture tracking from the outer leaf simultaneously. There are no special fixings required. It builds straight into the reveal as the brickwork or blockwork goes up, which keeps the installation tidy and quick without adding another stage to the programme.
Where DAMCOR Insulated DPC Makes a Difference
Cold spots at jambs are one of those things that tend to get discovered after handover, usually when a homeowner notices a damp patch or grey staining creeping in from the window corners. Getting DAMCOR in during the build costs almost nothing in time or material, and saves a fair bit of awkward conversation later. Lengths can be lapped without any loss of thermal performance, so you are not constrained by storey heights or roll lengths. It cuts cleanly with a knife, which means no specialist tools on site and no wasted material.
Manthorpe produce this in two widths to suit standard cavity configurations, and both sizes come on 8 metre rolls. It is the kind of product that tends to get specified once and then quietly becomes a standard detail on every job thereafter.
Pro Tip: When lapping lengths, keep the lap on the inner face of the reveal rather than the outer edge, so any incidental moisture that tracks along the surface is directed away from the internal finish.
