Green treated decking screws are a specific fix for a specific problem. Standard zinc-plated screws and even many stainless options can react badly with the copper-based preservatives used in pressure-treated timber, leading to corrosion at the fixing point and staining on the deck surface. These screws are coated to resist exactly that. If you’re building on treated softwood, these are the ones to use.
Available in four lengths — 4.5 x 50mm, 4.5 x 55mm, 4.5 x 60mm and 4.5 x 75mm — there’s a size to suit most standard decking board thicknesses and joist configurations. The 50mm and 55mm are the go-to for typical 32–38mm boards, while the 60mm and 75mm give you more bite when you’re working with thicker sections or want a more positive pull-down into the joist.
Why Green Treated Decking Screws Matter
It’s a detail that gets skipped on a surprising number of decking jobs. The timber is treated, the screws aren’t rated for it, and within a season you’ve got rust bleed running down between the boards. Aside from looking awful, corroded fixings lose holding strength over time. Using the right screw from the start costs nothing extra in the scheme of a deck build and saves a call-back later.
The 4.5mm shank gives solid holding power without splitting the board edge, which matters when you’re screwing close to the end grain or working with drier timber. The tub format is practical on site — no fiddling with boxes, just a scoop and go. A thousand screws is a sensible quantity for anything from a small garden deck to a larger commercial run. At this price per tub, buying a couple of sizes makes sense if you’re not sure which length suits the job until you’re on site.
These are a straightforward, dependable fixing for green treated timber. Nothing complicated, just the right screw for the job.
Pro Tip: If you're screwing into kiln-dried treated boards, pre-drilling near board ends will stop the occasional split, particularly with the 75mm length where the torque on drive-in is higher.
