These coarse thread black plasterboard screws are a day-to-day essential for dryliners and fixers working with timber stud partitions and ceilings. Supplied in trade tubs of 1500 or 2000, they are the kind of screw you buy in bulk because you go through them quickly — and running out halfway through a job is nobody’s idea of a good afternoon. The coarse thread bites firmly into timber, giving the plasterboard a secure, lasting fix without over-spinning or pulling through.
The bugle head profile is what separates a decent drywall screw from a frustrating one. It spreads the load as it beds in, sinking just below the board surface without tearing the paper facing. Get the depth right and you have a clean, dimpled finish ready for jointing compound. Punch through the facing and you have a weak fixing and extra remedial work. The bugle head makes it easier to get this right, especially at pace when you are fixing board after board.
What Makes These Plasterboard Screws Work
The 25-degree super sharp point drives through plasterboard and into timber without needing a pilot hole. That might sound like a small detail, but when you are standing on a board lift fixing a ceiling or working along a long run of stud, not having to pre-drill saves real time across a day. The point is consistent across the batch, so you are not stopping to force blunt screws through or repositioning because one has skipped.
The Phillips No.2 recess gives a positive, secure drive. It suits the standard bits used with most screw guns and drywall drivers, and the recess depth is consistent enough that you can set your clutch and work at speed with confidence. Cam-out is less of an issue when the recess geometry is right, and these hold the bit well throughout the drive cycle.
Fire Classification A1
These coarse thread black drywall screws carry a Fire Classification of A1, which means they are classified as non-combustible. This is relevant on commercial and residential projects where fire performance documentation is required for the fixing components within a partition or ceiling system. It is worth keeping the product information to hand if you are working on a job where your installer needs to sign off on materials.
The black phosphate coating provides a degree of corrosion resistance for internal dry conditions. These screws are intended for internal timber stud work and are not suitable for external or damp environments.
Offered in two lengths, 32mm and 38mm, to suit single board and double board applications respectively. The 3.5mm shank diameter is the standard for plasterboard work, compatible with all drywall screwdrivers set to a No.2 tip. Available in tubs of 1500 at the 32mm size and 2000 at the 38mm size, giving you enough on site to keep work moving without constantly restocking.
Pro Tip: Set your drywall driver clutch carefully before starting a run of boards: the screw should dimple the surface by around 1mm without breaking through the paper facing, and once dialled in you can work along the stud quickly without stopping to check each fixing.
