Uncoil the full string before connecting to avoid heat build-up in the cable. Feed the string along your intended route before plugging in, securing it to scaffold tubes, timber battens or cable hooks as you go. Keep the bulb heads clear of direct contact with insulation materials or other combustibles, even though the heat output is low.
Connect to your 110V site transformer once the full string is laid out and secured. Check each bulb head is seated correctly before switching on. Can I join two festoon kits together to cover a longer run?
This depends on the transformer capacity and the connection type at each end of the kit. Two 22m kits daisy-chained gives you a 20-bulb, 100W draw — the same as the 50m version — so transformer load is the key factor. Check your transformer's rated output before linking strings together.
What happens if one of the bulb heads stops working?
Each bulb head operates independently, so a single failed head won't take out the rest of the string. You can continue working while you source a replacement. Check the head is properly seated first — loose contact is the most common cause of a non-illuminating head.
