Asbestos free flue jointing compound with a stiff, workable consistency. Stays permanently flexible so small movements won’t cause cracking. Non-flammable, making it safe to use around flue pipes and heating appliances.
The Everbuild 500g flue jointing compound is a finely dispersed, asbestos free material used to seal joints on flue pipes, back boilers, solid fuel appliances and similar installations. If you’ve ever had a flue joint crack out because the old compound went hard and brittle, this is the product that stops that happening. It stays flexible. That’s the whole point.
Most compounds used around high-temperature pipework either set rock solid or lose adhesion once things heat up and cool down a few times. Thermal cycling is brutal on rigid materials — the constant expansion and contraction will open a sealed joint up over time. This compound doesn’t harden completely, which means small movements are absorbed rather than transferred into a crack. It’s a simple but genuinely practical bit of chemistry.
Where Everbuild Flue Jointing Compound Gets Used
This is the product heating engineers, gas fitters, and plumbers reach for when they’re making good around flue collars, flue pipe sections, and register plate openings. It’s also commonly used on solid fuel stove installations where joints need to be sealed against smoke and fumes without the risk of the compound burning or off-gassing. Because it’s non-flammable, there’s no concern about it catching if temperatures at the joint surface get uncomfortable.
The stiff consistency means it stays put during application. You’re not fighting a runny paste that slumps down the joint before you’ve had a chance to tool it in. It presses into gaps, holds its position, and can be smoothed off neatly. For anyone doing repetitive installations, that workability matters more than it sounds.
Asbestos Free Formulation
Older generations of flue jointing products used asbestos as a filler material, which is worth knowing if you’re working on refurbishments and pulling out existing compound. This Everbuild product is entirely asbestos free, so there are no handling concerns on that front. It’s suitable for use on domestic and light commercial flue systems and meets the safety expectations that modern heating installations require.
At 500g, there’s enough in the tub to do a full installation properly rather than rationing it across joints. Keep the lid on between uses and it’ll store without issue.
Pro Tip: When bedding a register plate or flue collar into a breast opening, dampen the surrounding masonry slightly before applying the compound — it improves adhesion and stops the substrate drawing moisture out of the compound too quickly before you've finished tooling it.
