The Marcrist PG850 wet diamond tile drill is built around one key difference: natural South African diamonds rather than the synthetic diamonds found in most competing drills. That distinction matters more than it might sound. Natural diamonds are harder and more wear-resistant, which is why the PG850 delivers hole counts that most drills in this category simply cannot match. If you’re drilling grade 5 porcelain, you’re looking at up to 700 holes per bit. Drop down to grade 1 softer porcelain and that figure rises to around 1500. In ceramics, you could realistically reach 2800 holes from a single drill. Those are serious numbers for anyone running a tiling business or working through a large contract job.

The full PG850 range covers sizes from 6mm right up to 112mm, so whether you’re dropping in a small brassware fitting or cutting a large waste outlet in a fully vitrified slab, there’s a size to suit. The smaller diameters — 6mm through to 10mm — handle screws, fixings and tap holes. The mid-range sizes cover most standard plumbing and sanitary ware requirements. Go bigger and you’re into bath waste, shower drains and the sort of large-format cutting that would have tilers reaching for a grinder in the old days.

Why the PG850 Makes Sense on High-Specification Tile Jobs

Porcelain has become increasingly dense and hard over the past decade. Grade 5 fully vitrified tiles are as close to a nightmare as tiling gets — even decent drills can struggle to get through a dozen holes before performance drops off noticeably. The Marcrist PG850 wet diamond tile drill is specifically designed for exactly this material. The wet cutting requirement keeps heat down, protects both the diamond matrix and the tile surface, and keeps the cutting edge sharp for longer.

For contractors working in wet rooms, bathrooms and commercial tiling, where high-spec porcelain is now practically the norm, a drill that gives consistent performance across hundreds of holes is not a luxury. It’s the difference between finishing a job on time and spending money on replacement bits halfway through. The PG850 is the kind of drill you buy once per job size rather than twice.

Marcrist have been producing diamond tooling for a long time and the PG850 sits firmly in their professional range. This is trade-grade tooling priced accordingly, and the hole count numbers back up the cost comfortably across any reasonably-sized tiling contract.

Pro Tip: Always keep the PG850 cutting wet throughout the hole and never let the bit run dry even briefly, because heat is what kills the diamond matrix fastest and a single dry run can shorten the bit's life significantly.
