These Tek self drilling roofing screws are designed for one job: fixing metal roofing and cladding sheets directly to light section steel purlins and rails without pre-drilling. The drill-point tip does the hard work, biting through the sheet and into steel up to 5.0mm thick in a single pass. For anyone sheeting out a steel-framed building, agricultural unit, or industrial roof, that means fewer tools on the roof and faster progress across the bay.
Each screw comes with a bonded EPDM washer under the hex head. The washer compresses as the screw is driven home, forming a weatherproof seal around the fixing point. This keeps water out at every penetration, which matters on a roof where every poorly sealed hole is a future leak waiting to happen. The washer is pre-fitted, so there is nothing to lose down the eaves or fumble with cold hands at height.
Corrosion Resistance on Self Drilling Roofing Screws
The external coating on these screws is tested to withstand 1500 hours of salt-spray exposure. Self drilling roofing screws in this range are available in nine lengths from 5.5 x 25mm through to 5.5 x 100mm, all at the same 5.5mm diameter. The shorter lengths suit thin profile sheets onto standard purlins. The longer lengths are there when you are fixing through deeper panels, insulated composite sheets, or where there is a standing seam or liner tray to pass through before reaching the steel. Matching the screw length to the build-up is straightforward: the drill tip needs to clear the sheet material and engage the steel with enough thread to pull tight.
