These stainless steel cutting discs are built for one job and they do it well. Whether you are slitting box section, trimming sheet metal or cutting stainless pipe, the thin 1.0mm profile (1.9mm on the 230mm disc) cuts through quickly without dragging or generating the kind of heat that warps the workpiece. Less heat means less discolouration on stainless, which matters if the cut edge is going to be visible.
Manufactured to European standard EN 12413, these discs meet the safety and performance requirements you would expect from a trade cutting disc. That standard is not just a box-ticking exercise — it covers bond consistency, burst speed testing and dimensional tolerances, all of which directly affect how reliably the disc performs under load.
Where These Stainless Steel Cutting Discs Perform Best
The real advantage of a thin slitting disc over a general-purpose grinding disc is the cutting speed. Less material being removed means less resistance, which means you get through the cut faster and with less effort on the tool. On stainless in particular, where work hardening is a genuine issue if you linger, that speed is not just convenient — it is actually better for the material.
Reduced burring is another practical benefit. It does not eliminate finishing entirely, but a clean slitting cut leaves far less to dress off compared to a thicker disc or an abusive cut with the wrong wheel.
Available Sizes
Three sizes are stocked: 115 x 1.0 x 22.2mm and 125 x 1.0 x 22.2mm for 4.5 and 5 inch angle grinders, and 230 x 1.9 x 22.2mm for 9 inch grinders. Buy individually or in boxes of 25 — at this price, buying in bulk makes sense if you are running through discs regularly on site.
Pro Tip: On stainless steel, keep the disc moving at a steady pace rather than forcing it: stainless work-hardens fast if you dwell in the cut, and a thin disc at the right feed rate will stay cooler and last noticeably longer.
These inox cutting discs are used by fabricators, plumbers, roofers and general metalworkers cutting stainless steel, mild steel, sheet metal and steel pipe. They are suited to production work and site use alike, particularly wherever a clean, low-burr cut is needed without a lot of dressing off afterwards. Common applications include cutting stainless tube, trimming steel fixings, slitting sheet metal to size and cutting bar stock to length.

Not suitable for: Not suitable for grinding or side-loading — these are slitting discs designed for straight cut-off work only. Do not use on masonry, stone or non-metallic materials.
Fit the disc to the correct size grinder, ensure the arbor nut is properly tightened and the guard is in place. Mark your cut line clearly, let the disc reach full speed before contacting the workpiece, and feed steadily through the cut without forcing. Keep the disc square to the cut — any lateral pressure on a 1.0mm disc will cause it to flex and can lead to breakage.
On stainless, keep moving. A slow or stalled cut generates heat quickly, which discolours the material and can cause work hardening at the cut edge. Short, confident passes are better than slow grinding through a single stroke.
Check the disc for cracks or chips before fitting — do not use a damaged disc
Fit to a grinder of the correct disc diameter, ensuring the bore seats properly on the spindle
Tighten the arbor nut securely and confirm the guard is correctly positioned
Mark the cut line on the workpiece and secure the material so it cannot move
Allow the grinder to reach full operating speed before touching the disc to the metal
Feed the disc through the cut at a steady pace, keeping it square to the cut line
Avoid side pressure or lateral movement — apply only straight, forward cutting force
Allow the disc and workpiece to cool before handling or measuring the cut
Can these discs be used on mild steel as well as stainless?
Yes. The inox designation means they are suitable for stainless steel, but they will cut mild steel, sheet metal and general steel bar and tube without any issues. They are thin slitting discs first and foremost — the inox rating just confirms they are appropriate for stainless too.
What is the difference between the 1.0mm and 1.9mm discs?
The 1.0mm discs are the 115mm and 125mm sizes for smaller angle grinders. The 230mm disc is 1.9mm thick, which is standard for that diameter — a 1.0mm disc at 230mm would not have the structural integrity needed for safe operation at the higher rim speeds of a 9 inch grinder.
Are these discs safe to use for grinding or dressing welds?
No. These are slitting and cut-off discs only. Using them for grinding or applying side pressure risks disc failure. If you need to dress welds or grind flat, use a dedicated grinding disc rated for that purpose.
These cutting discs are manufactured to EN 12413, the European harmonised standard for bonded abrasive products. The standard covers dimensional tolerances, bond consistency and burst speed testing. The 1.0mm thickness on the 115mm and 125mm discs minimises material removal per cut, reducing heat input and burring at the cut edge. The 230mm variant runs at 1.9mm to maintain structural integrity at the larger diameter and higher operating speeds.
