The Timloc hit and miss vent is a simple, effective way to manage airflow through internal walls without letting in a full blast of cold air every time the wind picks up. The adjustable hit and miss mechanism lets you open or close the slats to suit conditions, giving you proper control rather than just a fixed gap in the wall that does whatever it likes. White plastic construction keeps things neat and unobtrusive against plasterwork or painted masonry.
These are internal vents, designed for use where background ventilation is needed but draught control matters. Suspended timber floors, understairs voids, internal partitions, and similar enclosed spaces where a bit of airflow prevents moisture build-up are typical applications. The louvre design keeps the vent functional even when partially closed, so there is always some movement of air rather than a completely sealed void.
Hit and Miss Vent Sizes
Four sizes are available: 166 x 85mm, 260 x 104mm, 260 x 170mm, and 260 x 235mm. The smaller size suits tight spots and sleeper wall applications, while the larger formats are better suited to floor voids or partition walls where you need more airflow capacity. Measure the opening before ordering, as these fit into pre-cut or pre-formed apertures rather than being surface-mounted plates.
Worth noting: these vents are not suitable for gas appliance ventilation. That is not a minor caveat, it is a building regulations point. If you need ventilation for a gas appliance, you need a fixed, non-closeable vent rated for the purpose. These are for general background ventilation only.
Pro Tip: When fitting to a sleeper wall with an existing course of perforated brickwork, check the aperture dimensions against the vent frame before cutting anything — the 260 x 104mm size is the closest match to a standard single-brick slot, but mortar build-up can reduce the opening by several millimetres.
