Bondit PU18 is a one-part, moisture-curing polyurethane adhesive and sealant built for expansion joints in construction, engineering, automotive and marine applications. If you need a PU18 expansion joint sealant that bonds well, moves with the joint and stays put through temperature cycling and vibration, this is a practical, well-proven choice. One-part means no mixing, no waste and no mess from getting the ratio wrong at the end of a busy day.
The product cures to a tough, elastic seal with a Shore A hardness of 40. That sits in a useful middle ground: firm enough to resist mechanical damage and foot traffic near joints, but flexible enough to accommodate the movement you expect in expansion joints across concrete slabs, panels and similar structures. The elasticity is not just a nice-to-have here. It is doing real work every time the structure expands, contracts or takes a load.
Where Bondit PU18 Gets Used
On site this sealant earns its place sealing movement joints in concrete floors, cladding panels, precast elements and masonry. It performs just as well in the engineering sector, where oil resistance and vibration damping matter. The automotive and marine trades use it where a sealant needs to cope with exposure to oils, fuels and constant movement without breaking down or losing adhesion.
Adhesion and Compatibility
Adhesion is one of the stronger points of PU18. It bonds to concrete, wood, metals, GRP, most rubbers and the majority of common building materials without requiring a primer in many cases, though priming is always worth considering on porous or contaminated surfaces. It is also suitable for fixing wooden floors, which is a useful secondary application when you already have a cartridge open on a refurbishment job.
CE approved and available in black, grey and white, Bondit PU18 suits both structural and aesthetic requirements. It works in a standard 310ml cartridge, so any competent applicator gun handles it without fuss.
Pro Tip: On cold days below around 10°C, warm the cartridge in your pocket or a bucket of warm water before use as cold polyurethane sealant gets significantly stiffer to gun and can skin unevenly.
Bondit PU18 is used primarily for sealing and bonding expansion joints in concrete floors, precast panels, cladding systems and masonry. It handles construction joints in commercial and industrial buildings where long-term movement and load cycling are expected. In the engineering and automotive sectors it is used where oil resistance and vibration damping are required alongside a reliable seal. Marine applications benefit from its toughness and adhesion to GRP and metals. It is also used for fixing and bonding wooden floors during installation.

Not suitable for: Not suitable for use on surfaces that are constantly submerged in water or exposed to continuous fuel immersion without confirming chemical compatibility. Not recommended for structural glazing applications.
Clean the joint faces thoroughly, removing dust, lace, old sealant and any contamination. On porous surfaces such as concrete or wood, a primer will improve adhesion and is worth applying if the joint will be subject to heavy movement or wet conditions. Joint width and depth should ideally follow a 2:1 width-to-depth ratio for best movement performance.
Load the cartridge into a standard skeleton gun and apply the sealant in a steady, consistent bead into the prepared joint. Tool off within the skin time to achieve a neat, pressed finish. Curing is driven by atmospheric moisture, so in very dry or enclosed conditions curing will be slower than in normal site conditions.
Remove all old sealant, dust, grease and loose material from the joint faces
Apply primer to porous or absorbent surfaces and allow to dry fully before sealing
Fit a closed-cell backing rod to control joint depth where required, targeting a 2:1 width-to-depth ratio
Load the 310ml cartridge into a standard applicator gun and cut the nozzle to the appropriate bead size
Apply sealant in a continuous bead, keeping the gun moving at a steady pace to avoid voids
Tool the sealant smooth with a wetted spatula or finger within the skin time
Allow to cure fully before exposing to traffic or movement
Does Bondit PU18 need a primer on concrete and metal surfaces?
On clean, sound concrete and metal it will often bond without a primer, but priming is recommended where the surface is porous, contaminated or where the joint will experience significant movement and wet exposure. A primer improves long-term adhesion and reduces the risk of adhesion failure at the joint face.
What is the difference between PU18 and a standard silicone sealant for expansion joints?
PU18 is a polyurethane sealant, which means it can be painted over once cured and generally offers better adhesion to concrete and masonry than silicone. It also provides some vibration damping. Silicone tends to offer better UV resistance and is preferred for glazing applications, but it cannot be overpainted and adhesion to porous substrates is typically lower.
Bondit PU18 is a one-part polyurethane formulation that cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture to form a tough, elastic seal. Shore A hardness of 40 gives the cured sealant good flexibility alongside meaningful resistance to mechanical damage. The chemistry provides inherent oil resistance, making it suitable beyond standard construction use into engineering and transport applications. The product is CE approved, which confirms it meets the relevant European performance standards for construction sealants.
