Zinc hex full nuts are the workhorse of any fixing kit. From structural steelwork to general mechanical assembly, these are the nuts that end up on practically every bolt on a job. Simple, reliable, and made to a proper standard — Class 8 to DIN 267-4 — so you know what you’re getting before the box is even open.

These are plated in Trivalent Chromium (Cr3) Zinc, which is the current standard finish replacing the older hexavalent chromium process. It gives a clean, bright appearance and reasonable corrosion resistance for internal and sheltered external applications. The coating is consistent across the range from M4 right through to M20, so you get the same quality whether you’re working with small machine screws or heavier structural bolts.

Where Zinc Hex Full Nuts Get Used

The full nut profile means full thread engagement, which is what you want when you need the joint to hold. In contrast to half nuts or locknuts, a full hex nut gives maximum clamping strength and works well in combination with washers, spring washers, or nyloc counterparts depending on the application. The standard metric thread across the range means they pair correctly with any metric bolt of the matching size and pitch.

Sizes run from M4 up to M20, covering the majority of general construction, mechanical engineering, and fabrication needs. Box quantities vary by size, so smaller nuts like M4 and M5 come in larger counts, while the heavier M16 and M20 are packed accordingly. Buying in bulk this way makes sense on site — running out of M10 nuts halfway through a steel frame connection is not a situation anyone enjoys.

The DIN 267-4 Class 8 rating confirms these are load-rated fasteners, not economy hardware. That matters when you’re specifying fixings for anything structural or safety-critical, and it gives you something to point to if you’re ever asked about the fastener specification on a job.

Pro Tip: When torquing down zinc plated nuts onto galvanised or coated bolts, a small amount of anti-seize paste on the thread prevents galling, especially on larger sizes like M16 and M20 where the clamping forces are significant.
