Premium grade red marking chalk for building sites and construction work. High visibility pigment, semi-permanent finish, suitable for wood, concrete, brick and most common building surfaces. Works indoors and out.
Red marking chalk is one of those things you don’t think about until you run out of it mid-job. This 225g tub covers internal and external marking applications on the surfaces you’re most likely working with: wood, concrete, brick, stone, render. The pigment is high visibility, which sounds obvious for a marking chalk, but there’s a real difference between chalk that shows clearly on dusty concrete and chalk that disappears into it. This one shows up.
It’s described as semi-permanent, which in practice means it’ll stay put through light weather and general site conditions without smearing off every time someone brushes past it. That said, it won’t take a chisel to remove. Moisture and dirt resistance help it hold on longer than basic chalk lines, and the anti-abrasion properties mean it won’t ghost away the moment you pull a tape across it.
Where Red Marking Chalk Gets Used on Site
The most common application is loading a chalk line reel for snapping straight lines across floors, walls and roofing sheets. Red is a popular choice specifically because it reads well against pale surfaces like plasterboard, OSB and light timber. Bricklayers use it for course marking, roofers for batten spacing, floor layers for setting out. It’s also fine for direct marking with a chalk stick or applied by hand where a line reel isn’t practical.
Internal and External Use
The formulation handles both environments without needing a separate product for each. On external jobs, that moisture resistance matters more than you’d expect, particularly on mornings when the surface has dew on it. Internally, the high pigment load means clear marks under artificial lighting, which matters more than people admit in unlit first fixes.
At 225g this is a sensible working quantity. Enough to keep a line reel topped up across a decent job without carrying around a catering-sized tub. Stock a few and you won’t be cadging chalk off the next trade.
Pro Tip: When loading a chalk line reel, let the chalk settle for a minute after filling before you snap your first line, as freshly loaded reels can lay down an uneven deposit that blurs the mark.
