The Mexco DCXCEL 9 piece diamond core set covers 38mm to 117mm in masonry, with laser welded castellated segments for faster, cleaner drilling. Includes adaptors, pilot drill and drift key. Everything you need in one case.
The Mexco 9 piece DCXCEL diamond core set is a well-thought-out kit aimed at tradespeople who need reliable, fast hole cutting in masonry without the faff of sourcing bits separately. The mexco 9 piece dcxcel diamond core set covers the sizes most commonly needed on site, from 38mm up to 117mm, and everything arrives in a single carry case. Plumbers, electricians, builders, and general tradespeople will recognise this immediately as the kind of kit that actually gets used rather than sitting in the van gathering dust.
The core drills themselves use laser welded castellated segments, which is worth understanding rather than just nodding along to. Laser welding bonds the diamond segment to the barrel at a much higher strength than the older brazing method. That means the segments stay put under sustained drilling pressure instead of parting ways with the barrel at an inconvenient moment, usually halfway through a block wall. The rooftop segment profile and high diamond grit concentration work together to cut faster and track more accurately, particularly in harder masonry like engineering brick or dense concrete block.
What’s Inside the DCXCEL 9 Piece Diamond Core Set
The kit contains three core drill sizes: 38mm, 52mm, and 117mm. The 38mm is your everyday conduit and pipe penetration size. The 52mm handles slightly larger service runs and back boxes in some applications. The 117mm is the one you reach for on soil pipe penetrations and larger cable entries. Alongside the drills you get both SDS and hex adaptors in 80mm and 250mm lengths, which covers most drill configurations without needing adaptor gymnastics. A 10mm x 175mm A-Taper pilot drill and a drift key complete the set. The pilot drill centres the core accurately, which makes a genuine difference to hole quality, especially on uneven or rendered surfaces.
All three core drills feature a slotted and fluted steel barrel and a half inch BSP female fitment as standard. The barrels are designed to clear debris during drilling, which helps maintain cut speed and reduces heat build-up in dry use.
Power Requirements Worth Noting
Mexco specify a minimum 850W drill motor with a slipping clutch. That’s not a suggestion you can quietly ignore. Running these on an underpowered drill will either kill the motor or produce poor results in anything harder than a lightweight block. A good SDS Plus or rotary hammer in the right power range will get the best from these segments. Each item in the kit can also be purchased individually, so restocking individual sizes as they wear is straightforward without buying the whole set again.
Pro Tip: Always use the pilot drill to centre the core before applying pressure, particularly on angled or rendered surfaces, as a wandering start will cause the segment to track off line and can crack tiles or render around the hole.
