CORREX 2mm black protection rolls are the go-to surface protection on construction, refurbishment and fit-out sites across the UK. Made from twin-wall corrugated polypropylene, this 50m roll gives you a serious run of coverage for protecting floors, stairs, worktops and finished surfaces during the build process. If you have tiled floors going in early or a client who cares about their oak boards, this is what you reach for. The 2mm correx rolls in black are particularly popular where appearance matters on site, or where you need to tell different protection zones apart at a glance.
Correx sheeting works because it sits flat, cuts easily with a knife, and does not shift around underfoot the way plastic film does. It takes foot traffic without compressing to nothing, and it can be taped down at the edges to stop it walking. The twin-wall construction absorbs minor impacts and scuffs that would transfer straight through thinner sheet materials, which is why it is standard practice on commercial fit-outs and new builds alike.
Where CORREX 2mm Black Protection Roll Gets Used
This roll is wide enough to cover a corridor or staircase in a couple of strips, and the 50m length means you are not running back to the van halfway through a job. Cut it to suit, butt the seams, and tape the joins. Done. Most trades use correx sheeting from first fix through to handover, pulling it up as the final clean happens. On some jobs it stays down for weeks without issue, which tells you something about how well the material handles sustained use.
The black colour is not purely aesthetic. On sites where multiple protection products are used, different colours help you keep track of what is covering what. Black correx is also widely used for signage backing and hoarding boards on commercial projects, so if you have offcuts they rarely go to waste.
Cutting and Fixing 2mm Correx Rolls
A sharp Stanley knife and a straight edge are all you need to cut this material cleanly. Score once along the flute direction and it snaps clean; cutting across the flutes takes a full pass with the knife. For fixing down, a standard carpet tape or correx-compatible tape along the edges is enough. Avoid tapes that leave adhesive residue if the substrate underneath needs to stay clean. The polypropylene surface resists most paints and mortars, so if it does pick up a splash during the job, a wipe-down is usually all that is needed before the roll goes back in the van for next time.
At 2mm thick, this grade of correx balances protection against practical weight and handling. It is light enough for one person to carry a full roll without drama, but stiff enough to bridge minor surface variations and provide a stable walking surface. For heavier-duty applications where machinery or loaded pallet trucks are involved, a thicker board would be the better choice.
Pro Tip: Unroll correx with the flutes running in the direction of foot traffic so the sheet flexes with the load rather than against it, which reduces the chance of the surface cracking along the flute lines under repeated use.
