Plastic backed dust sheets are the sensible choice when there’s any chance of liquid getting involved. Paint drips, wet plaster, a knocked-over brew — a standard cotton sheet will soak it up and then transfer every bit of it straight through to the floor. The PRODEC poly-backed cotton dust sheet stops that from happening. You get a heavy duty cotton twill face on top that absorbs spills as they happen, with a polythene backing underneath that blocks anything from reaching the surface you’re protecting.
That combination matters. Cotton on its own is absorbent but not waterproof. Polythene sheet on its own is slippery, creases into a trip hazard, and shifts around the moment anyone walks on it. This sheet gives you both in one — the grip and absorbency of cotton up top, the liquid barrier of poly underneath. It stays where you put it and it does the job properly.
The heavy duty construction means it handles a full working day without tearing at the corners or going thin in the middle. These aren’t the sheets you buy, use twice and bin. They wash well and come up ready to use again, which matters if you’re running a tight operation and don’t want to be buying consumables every other week.
Where PRODEC Poly-Backed Dust Sheets Are Used
Decorators reach for these on any job where floors, carpets, or hard surfaces need proper coverage during painting or plastering work. The stairs size is cut specifically for stair treads — narrow enough to run the full flight and stay tucked in without bulk. The larger sizes cover rooms or big floor sections quickly. Builders use them under mixing areas, around door frames during spray work, or anywhere a standard sheet just won’t hold up to the conditions on site.
A Word on the Poly Backing
The polythene layer does mean these sheets aren’t breathable underneath, so don’t leave them over freshly laid floors that need to cure or breathe. On established hard floors, tiles, or carpet they’re exactly what you want. The backing also makes them easier to shake down and fold back up at the end of the day — the dust doesn’t work its way into the fibres the same way it does with a plain cotton sheet. Plastic backed dust sheets with this kind of dual-layer build genuinely earn their place in the van.
Pro Tip: Wash these sheets before first use if you're working over light-coloured carpets — new cotton twill can shed short fibres that show up on pale finishes.
