Zinc plated drywall screws with a fine thread are the standard choice for fixing plasterboard to metal stud partitions and ceiling systems. The fine thread is designed specifically for metal framing, giving a tight, secure bite without stripping the section. These are the screws that go in by the thousand on any decent fit-out job, so it helps to have them in bulk.

The sharp bugle head sits flush with the board face without tearing the paper — which matters when you are taping and jointing afterwards. A counter-sunk head that digs into the face paper is a problem you do not want to fix. These are designed to sit just below the surface cleanly and consistently.

Where Zinc Plated Drywall Screws Fit Into the Job

The zinc plating gives basic corrosion resistance, making these suitable for internal dry environments such as stud walls, metal partition systems, suspended ceiling grids, and standard drylining work. They are not intended for external or high-humidity applications, but for the vast majority of internal drylining jobs, they are exactly what you need.

The range covers sizes from 3.5 x 25mm right through to 4.8 x 150mm, so whether you are fixing standard 12.5mm board to a metal stud or going through doubled-up layers with the longer lengths, there is a size for the job. Box quantities are available in 200, 500 and 1000, so you can order what makes sense for the scale of work you are doing.

A decent drywall gun or a drill with a depth-stop bit will get these in quickly and consistently. Set your depth right and you can run through a box faster than you might expect — which is either satisfying or alarming depending on how many boxes you ordered.

Pro Tip: When fixing to light gauge metal stud, use a magnetised drywall bit with a depth stop collar to keep the screw heads consistently flush — over-driving tears the face paper and under-driving creates bumps that show through the finish coat.
