Firmahold 16g straight brad nails are galvanised second fix nails designed for use with cordless and pneumatic brad nailers. They load into the magazine without any gas cartridge, which keeps running costs down and removes one more thing to run out of mid-job. Available in seven sizes from 19mm to 64mm, so you can match the nail to the application rather than making do.

The 16 gauge diameter is well suited to second fix joinery. Fine enough that it won’t split delicate mouldings, but with enough body to hold architrave, door stops, and skirting firmly against a wall. The galvanised coating gives a degree of corrosion resistance, which is useful in kitchens, bathrooms, or any sheltered external joinery where moisture is a factor. The coating also helps the nail feed smoothly through the nailer mechanism, reducing jams when you’re part-way through a long run of skirting and patience is already running low.

Where Firmahold 16g Straight Brad Nails Fit Into Second Fix Work

Shorter lengths in the range, from 19mm to 25mm, suit thin panel trims and finer mouldings where you need minimal penetration into the substrate. The longer sizes, from 38mm upward, are better suited to heavier skirting boards or built-up timber sections where pull-out resistance matters more. The 2000-nail pack is a practical quantity for trade use: enough to get through a full day on site without constantly reordering, but not so many you’re lugging surplus stock around.

Straight Collation Format

These are straight collated nails, not angled. That distinction matters before you order. Most 16g brad nailers accept straight collated nails, but not all, so it’s worth confirming your gun’s collation format first. These nails are compatible with both cordless battery nailers and pneumatic guns, and because no gas cell is required, there’s no mismatch between nails left in the magazine and an empty gas cartridge stopping the job dead.

Pro Tip: Before starting a long run of skirting or architrave, drive a few test nails into offcuts at your intended compressor pressure setting and adjust until the head sits just flush, driving too hard dents softwood mouldings and too light leaves nails sitting proud that need punching in by hand.
