Wet mini diamond core tile drills are the go-to solution when you need clean, accurate holes through hard tile without cracking it. Whether you’re drilling for red plugs in ceramic wall tiles or cutting a 40mm opening for a sink waste through grade 5 porcelain, these diamond grit edge drills do the job properly. The nickel plated finish adds durability, and the range covers everything from 6mm right through to 40mm, so you’re not swapping to a different tool mid-job.

These mini cores are suitable for glass, plastic, ceramic, and the hardest grade 5 porcelain tiles. Grade 5 is the stuff that kills standard TCT or carbide drill bits, and it’s increasingly common in bathrooms and kitchens specified by architects and interior designers who’ve never had to actually drill through the stuff themselves. These wet mini diamond core tile drills handle it without drama, provided you use them correctly.

The wet part matters. Water as a coolant isn’t optional here — it’s what stops the diamond grit from burning out and keeps the cut clean. Without water, you’ll overheat the drill and wreck the tile edge. A small dam made from plumber’s putty around the drill point works well if you’re not using a drill guide with a water feed. A steady trickle from a sponge also does the job on vertical surfaces.

Where Wet Mini Diamond Core Tile Drills Get Used

These are designed for professional installation work in bathrooms, kitchens, and wet rooms. The size range isn’t random — each diameter corresponds to a practical trade application. The 6mm to 8mm sizes cover standard wall plug diameters. The 10mm works for blue plugs and mini core pipe runs. Move up to the 16.5mm and 18mm sizes for 15mm copper pipe, then 25mm for 22mm copper, 30mm for 28mm copper. The 35mm handles 1¼ inch waste pipe, and the 40mm is your size for sink waste and shower head outlets.

Using These With a Cordless Drill

These drill well with a good cordless drill, which makes them genuinely useful on site without trailing leads across a bathroom floor. Keep the speed low, disengage the hammer action entirely, and use rotary mode only. Hammer action on a tile will crack it regardless of how good the drill is — that’s just physics. Low speed, steady pressure, and consistent water cooling will get you through even the densest porcelain without fuss.

Pro Tip: When drilling on a vertical tiled surface, build a small dam of plumber's putty around the drill point to hold a pool of water as coolant, keeping the diamond edge cool and the tile edge clean throughout the cut.
