The FMP Premium Gold dry diamond porcelain tile drill bit is built for one of the trickier jobs in tiling: drilling clean, precise holes through hard porcelain and granite without cracking the surface or burning through tips. The wax-filled core does the cooling work so you do not need a water feed, a drilling guide filled with water, or any other cooling setup. Just mark, drill, and move on.
Porcelain is unforgiving. It is dense, hard, and brittle, and a cheap drill bit will either skate across the surface or shatter the tile before it gets through. The diamond-encrusted tip on the FMP Premium Gold cuts progressively through the glaze and the body of the tile, keeping the hole clean and the edges intact. The wax fill lubricates and cools the tip from inside as friction builds, which extends the life of the bit and reduces the heat that causes cracking around the hole.
These bits work with a standard rotary drill. No hammer action — porcelain and hammer drills are not friends. Keep the drill in rotary mode, apply steady pressure, and let the diamond tip do the work. Rushing it or leaning too hard will cause chipping at the entry point, so a slow, controlled approach pays off every time.
Where FMP Premium Gold Drill Bits Get Used
These are the bits you reach for when drilling fixing holes through wall tiles for grab rails, shower fittings, towel rails, mirror brackets, and toilet roll holders. They are equally useful when cutting holes for pipe penetrations through tiled floors or walls, and for any situation where a standard masonry bit simply will not cut it through a hard porcelain surface.
The range covers sizes from 6mm up to 20mm, with a guide option available for getting started on smooth glazed surfaces without the tip wandering. If you are regularly drilling through large format porcelain or through-body tiles, having a few sizes on hand makes sense rather than trying to make one bit cover everything.
Dry Drilling Without the Setup
Wet diamond drilling produces cleaner results on very hard materials, but it is slow to set up and messy to manage on a finished installation. The FMP Premium Gold porcelain tile drill bit removes that overhead entirely. The wax lubricant built into the bit handles the heat, so you can work efficiently without suction cups, water dams, or a second person holding a sponge. For bathroom and kitchen tiling work where you are drilling one or two holes at a time, this format is far more practical on a daily basis.
Available individually or in multi-packs depending on size, these bits offer good value for tilers and general tradespeople who want a reliable dry drill bit that handles porcelain without drama.
Pro Tip: Start drilling at a low speed with light pressure until the diamond tip has cut through the glaze layer, then increase speed slightly for the body of the tile — this prevents the bit from skidding and reduces chipping at the entry point.
