Hinged screw cover caps are one of those small details that separate a tidy finish from a job that looks rushed. Press them down over a screw head and the hinged lid snaps shut, covering the fixings completely. No glue required, no fiddly loose caps to drop on the floor and hunt for on your hands and knees. They click into place and stay there.
Also known as fold-over cover caps, these are designed to fit most standard screw head profiles. The hinged design makes installation quicker than traditional push-in caps, particularly when you have a run of fixings to cover in one go. On a kitchen carcass with thirty or forty visible screws, that difference adds up.
Where Hinged Screw Cover Caps Are Used
These caps are a standard item in kitchen and bedroom furniture fitting, where exposed screws on cabinet sides or shelving would otherwise look unfinished. They are equally common in sign installation, where fixings need to be weatherproof or at least out of sight, and in sanitary ware fitting, where a bare screw head in a bathroom just does not look right.
Available in a range of colours including white, cream, beige, black, dark brown, light brown, dark green, grey, and yellow, there is a reasonable chance of finding a match for whatever board, panel or surface you are fixing into. The two size ranges, No. 6-8s and No. 10-12s, cover the most commonly used screw gauges in joinery and board work.
Sold in quantities from 50 up to 1000, hinged screw cover caps are the kind of thing worth keeping a good stock of. Run out mid-job and the whole finish looks incomplete. Buy in bulk, keep a few colours on the van, and you will rarely be caught short.
Pro Tip: When fitting hinged screw cover caps on MFC or melamine-faced board, press the cap base in firmly before snapping the lid shut so the retaining ring seats fully into the countersink, otherwise the cap can work loose over time as the board expands and contracts.
