An SDS+ point chisel is one of those tools you either have on site or you spend twenty minutes wishing you did. It fits directly into any SDS+ rotary hammer drill and turns it into a proper breaker for concentrated demolition work. Whether you’re cracking out a section of concrete, breaking through a dense blockwork wall, or driving into hardened mortar joints, this is the bit that does the work.

The point focuses all the hammer energy into a single tip, which makes it far more effective than a flat chisel when you need to punch through rather than chip across. It’s the right tool for breaking out stubborn material in tight spots where a full-size breaker simply won’t fit or is complete overkill for the scale of the job.

Where the SDS+ Point Chisel Gets Used

On most sites this type of chisel sees regular use during first fix and strip-out work. Breaking out old fixings, opening up chases that have been filled, cracking concrete to redirect drainage runs — the list is fairly long. Roofers use them to break back mortar around ridge tiles. Groundworkers reach for them when exposed to reinforced screed or light concrete that’s awkward to get at with anything larger.

Works With Any SDS+ Machine

The SDS+ shank is the standard fitting used across the vast majority of rotary hammer drills, from compact 2kg machines through to heavier 5kg models. You’re not locked into any particular brand. Bosch, Makita, DeWalt, Hilti, Milwaukee — if it takes SDS+ bits, it takes this chisel. Switch your drill into hammer-only mode, slot the chisel in, and you’re ready to go.

At this price point it also makes sense to keep a spare on the van. Point chisels take a beating and the tip does wear over time, particularly on dense aggregate concrete. Having a fresh one to hand avoids that frustrating mid-job delay when the worn tip starts skipping rather than biting.

Pro Tip: Always switch your rotary hammer to hammer-only mode before using a chisel bit — leaving it in rotation mode wears the shank and can damage the tool chuck over time.
