A wash basin fixing kit sounds simple enough, and it is — but get the wrong fixings and you’re either cracking the porcelain or watching the basin slowly peel away from the wall. This kit gives you everything needed to mount a washbasin securely, with countersunk nylon bushes included to cushion the fixing point and prevent damage to the basin surface during tightening. That small detail makes a real difference on ceramic.
Two sizes are available. The M8 x 100mm pair handles standard lighter basins, typical of most domestic or commercial cloakroom installations. The M10 x 140mm pair is the heavier option, suited to larger or wall-hung basins where the load demands a bit more from the fixing. Worth getting right — a loose basin is one of those jobs that comes back to haunt you at 7am on a Monday.
Where Wash Basin Fixing Kits Get Used
These are designed primarily for fixing into solid masonry: brick, block, and dense concrete. The nylon plugs supplied work with the masonry perfectly well, giving a clean, secure installation. That said, the fixings can also be driven directly into timber studwork or battens without the nylon plugs, which is useful when you’re mounting onto a plywood backing board or a timber-framed partition wall.
The countersunk nylon bush is the detail that sets a proper wash basin fixing kit apart from just using a bolt and washer. It sits between the fixing head and the basin, distributing load and preventing point stress on the ceramic. Porcelain does not forgive concentrated pressure — ask anyone who has overtightened a basin bolt and heard that particular sound.
Sold as a pair, which is exactly how basins are fixed: two fixings, one at each rear support point. No digging through a bag of mixed fixings trying to find a matching set. Everything is there, ready to go.
Pro Tip: When tightening down the fixing bolt, bring it up finger-tight first and check the basin is level before applying any tool pressure, as the nylon bush compresses slightly and small adjustments become much harder once it has seated.
