Not suitable for: Not suitable for use with plastic or push-fit pipe systems. These fittings require soldering and are intended for copper pipe installations only.
Cut the copper pipe square, deburr the end, and clean the outside of the pipe and the inside socket of the fitting with wire wool or abrasive cloth until both surfaces are bright. Apply flux to both the pipe and the fitting socket before assembling. Heat the fitting evenly with a blowtorch until the flux begins to sizzle, then feed solder into the joint gap until it appears all the way around the socket mouth. Allow the joint to cool undisturbed before testing.
Wrap the male BSP thread with PTFE tape before making up the threaded connection, applying several even turns in the direction of the thread. Nip the fitting up hand-tight first, then tighten with a spanner. Over-tightening a threaded brass fitting is a quick way to crack it, so firm and controlled is the right approach rather than maximum torque.
Cut copper pipe to length using a pipe cutter for a clean, square end
Deburr the pipe end inside and out with a deburring tool or file
Clean the outside of the pipe end and the inside of the fitting socket with wire wool or emery cloth until both are bright copper
Apply solder flux to the cleaned pipe end and inside the fitting socket
Push the pipe fully into the fitting socket
Apply heat evenly around the fitting body with a blowtorch until flux starts to sizzle
Feed solder into the joint gap until it draws in and appears cleanly around the full socket mouth
Remove heat and allow the joint to cool without disturbing it
Apply PTFE tape to the male BSP thread in the direction of the thread before making up the threaded connection
Tighten the threaded connection firmly with a spanner without over-tightening
Pressurise the system and check for leaks before covering or burying any pipework
