The bright round lost head nail is one of those products that has been doing the same job reliably for decades, and there is a good reason nobody has felt the need to reinvent it. The small, neat head is designed to be punched below the surface of the timber with a nail punch, leaving a hole small enough to fill and practically invisible once painted or stained. If you are fixing architrave, skirting, door linings, or any internal joinery where the finish matters, this is the nail you reach for.

Available here in three sizes: 40 x 2.36mm, 50 x 3.00mm, and 65 x 3.35mm. The 40mm is well suited to lighter mouldings and thinner sections of timber. The 50mm is a solid all-rounder for skirting and architrave. The 65mm earns its keep on heavier sections and carcassing work where you need a bit more bite. Choose from 0.5kg, 1kg, or 2.5kg pack weights depending on how much work you have in front of you.

Where Bright Round Lost Head Nails Get Used

The bright finish means these are intended for internal use. Bright steel has no coating or treatment, so exposure to moisture will cause surface rust fairly quickly. Keep them inside and they will perform exactly as expected.

These are sold in TIMbag or TIMtub packaging. The tub is worth having if you are working from a bench or fixed location. On site, the bag travels better. Either way the nails are easy to get at, which sounds trivial until you are halfway up a ladder trying to fish one out of a paper bag with one hand.

The bright round lost head nail is a staple item in any joiner’s bag. Simple product, no fuss, does exactly what it says. Stocked in bulk weights so you are not running to the merchant every other day.

Pro Tip: Always punch the head just below the surface rather than flush, as a slightly recessed hole takes filler far more cleanly and leaves a neater finish once painted.
