The Super 7 Thor Helical Nail is a stainless steel helical nail designed specifically for pitched roof construction, where counterbattens need to be fixed through a layer of insulation down into the rafter below. Standard nails compress the insulation as they drive through it, which defeats the purpose of putting it there in the first place. The Super 7 avoids that problem entirely. The patented Thor-Helical helix profile allows the nail to pass through insulation without crushing it, while still seating flush to the timber surface on the counterbatten.

These are manufactured by Ancon Staifix under their well-regarded Thor Helical range. Stainless steel construction means no corrosion concerns in a roof environment where moisture, condensation and timber treatment chemicals can destroy a standard nail over time. This matters more than people sometimes appreciate — a nail that corrodes loses holding power quietly, and you won’t find out about it until there’s a problem.

Where Super 7 Thor Helical Nails Are Used

The primary application is fixing counterbattens to rafters in warm or cold roof build-ups where a continuous insulation layer sits between the two. The helical profile gives excellent withdrawal resistance once the nail is set, which is important given the loads a counterbatten system carries over the life of a roof. Because these nails comply with NHBC standards, they are suitable for use on new build projects where sign-off and documentation matter.

The range covers 125mm through to 230mm, giving you the right length for varying insulation depths. Getting the length right is straightforward — you need enough nail to pass fully through the insulation and achieve adequate penetration into the rafter. If your project calls for a size outside the standard range, call the team and they can arrange a special order.

Box of 100 nails. Bulk pricing is available if you need larger quantities — again, worth a call rather than just clicking through. These are a specialist fixing and the price per nail drops meaningfully on volume.

Pro Tip: Measure your insulation thickness carefully before ordering: the nail needs to clear the full insulation depth and still achieve at least 40mm of penetration into the rafter, so size up if you are on the boundary between two lengths.
