Fit the belt with the arrow on the inside face pointing in the direction of travel before switching the sander on. Start with the coarsest grit needed for the surface condition and work through finer grits in sequence. Keep the sander moving to avoid dwell marks, particularly on softwood and MDF which burn quickly if the belt sits still.
Select the appropriate grit for the surface condition: 40g for heavy removal, 60g or 80g for general smoothing, 120g for fine finishing
Check the arrow on the inside of the belt and fit it so the arrow points in the direction of sander travel
Tension the belt according to your sander's adjustment mechanism before switching on
