Arris rail brackets are the standard fixing method for attaching triangular arris rails to timber fence posts when building or repairing feather edge panel fencing. These galvanised steel brackets measure 90 x 60 x 60mm and are supplied in a pack of 25, giving you enough to fit a good run of fencing in one go without making a second trip to the merchant.

Each bracket is shaped to cradle the arris rail securely against the post face. Because an arris rail is triangular in section, you need a left and a right part to form a complete fixing point. This pack contains 25 individual brackets, so you get 12 complete pairs plus one spare. Worth checking that before you count your posts.

The galvanised finish provides reliable protection against rust and corrosion in outdoor conditions. For fence posts and rails that sit outside all year round, a bare steel bracket would fail within a few seasons. The zinc coating on these keeps them doing their job long after the fence itself has had its first coat of treatment.

Where Arris Rail Brackets Are Used in Fencing

These brackets are used primarily in feather edge fencing construction, which remains one of the most common styles of timber garden and boundary fencing in the UK. The arris rail runs horizontally between posts and provides the fixing surface for the individual feather edge boards. Without a solid fixing at each post, the rail will work loose under the weight of the boards and the movement caused by wind loading.

Beyond new builds, arris rail brackets are also the go-to repair solution when a rail has rotted at the mortise joint. Rather than digging out the post and starting again, you cut back the damaged rail end and use a bracket to fix it back to the existing post. It is a practical, cost-effective repair that most fencers will carry out regularly throughout a season.

New Installs and Repair Work

On a new install, brackets are often preferred over traditional mortise and tenon joints simply because they are faster to fit and more consistent. There is no chiselling, no trying to get a tight fit in wet timber, and no weak point where water can sit and rot the tenon over time. Fix the bracket, drop in the rail, and move on.

For repair jobs, the bracket approach means you can usually save the post and avoid the significant disruption of a full post replacement. Cut the rotten section back to sound timber, fix the arris rail bracket to the post face, and slot the trimmed rail in. The job is done in minutes rather than an afternoon.

At 25 brackets per pack, this is a practical trade quantity that suits both contractors running regular fencing jobs and landowners managing longer stretches of boundary. The galvanised finish and solid steel construction mean these brackets will outlast the timber they are holding.

Pro Tip: When fitting arris rail brackets as a repair, always cut the rail end back past any discolouration to genuinely sound timber before fixing, as soft or stained wood will not hold the screws long-term.
