Boss Rubber Waste Adaptor

A rubber waste adaptor for connecting waste pipes to boss entry points on soil stacks and waste systems. Fits a range of pipe sizes and seals without specialist tools. Useful when a rigid fitting just won’t do the job cleanly.
The rubber waste adaptor is one of those fittings that earns its keep quietly. When you’re connecting a branch waste pipe into an existing soil stack or waste system via a boss entry, a rigid push-fit or solvent-weld fitting sometimes isn’t practical — wrong angle, awkward access, or the pipe just won’t sit right. A rubber waste adaptor solves that. It compresses into the boss to form a watertight seal without the need for solvent cement or specialist tooling.
These are used constantly in bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms and commercial fit-outs wherever a waste branch needs to be tied into a stack midway. Plumbers reach for one when they’re adding a new appliance connection to an existing run, or when they’re replacing an old fitting that’s become brittle or cracked. The rubber material accommodates slight misalignment and minor pipe movement far better than a rigid solvent fitting would.
Where the Rubber Waste Adaptor Earns Its Place
In practice, this fitting turns what could be a frustrating job into a quick one. Boss saddles and boss entries are already fixed in place by the time you’re connecting the branch pipe, and the last thing you want is to start cutting the stack back because a fitting won’t seat correctly. The rubber waste adaptor compresses to grip the boss opening and the incoming pipe, creating a secure connection without the waiting time of solvent cement curing.
They’re equally handy during first-fix plumbing on new builds where stack positions are set but the final waste run positions are still being confirmed. There’s a small amount of flex in the fitting that gives you just enough forgiveness to make the connection work without forcing the pipe. On a busy site, that saves time and avoids the sort of bodging that causes callbacks.
Stocked as a standard plumbing consumable, it’s the kind of part that’s worth having a few of in the van. You won’t always need one — until you do.
Pro Tip: When inserting the adaptor, lubricate the rubber with washing-up liquid rather than petroleum-based products, which will degrade the rubber over time and eventually cause the seal to fail.
