Diamond Core Hex Barrel Extension Rod 200mm
£7.90£9.48 EX VATINC VAT
A 200mm hex barrel extension rod for diamond core drilling rigs. Extends your core drill setup to reach deeper into blockwork, concrete and masonry without repositioning the rig. Solid, straightforward, and does exactly what it says.
When your diamond core bit won’t quite reach and repositioning the rig isn’t an option, a 200mm diamond core hex extension rod is what you’re after. Used across plumbing, electrical, and general construction work wherever a through-wall or deep-core hole is needed, this extension rod threads between your drill and bit to give you that extra reach without losing torque or concentricity. Simple solution to a surprisingly common problem on site.
The hex barrel design is the standard format for most core drill rigs on the market. It gives a positive, secure connection at both ends, and because the geometry is consistent across the hex barrel system, you’re not fighting flex or wobble mid-cut. Keeping the core straight through a 215mm cavity wall or a dense concrete block is exactly where this pays for itself.
Where the 200mm Hex Barrel Extension Rod Earns Its Place
Most commonly you’ll find this in use behind the drill body, either stacking with another extension or bridging the gap between a short pilot and a deep substrate. Plumbers cutting soil pipe penetrations through thick walls, sparkies chasing a core through a double-skin, groundworkers boring through a concrete base: all situations where the bit alone doesn’t get the job done. The 200mm length hits a useful middle ground, long enough to matter, short enough to stay manageable. If you need more, two extensions can usually be run in series, though the longer your stack the more important it is to support the rig properly.
At this price point, keeping a couple in the van makes sense. They’re small, they’re light, and the one time you need one and don’t have it, you’ll remember. The hex barrel format is compatible with the vast majority of trade core drill machines, so there’s a reasonable chance it’ll slot straight onto whatever you’re already running.
Pro Tip: When running extension rods in series, check that every connection is fully tightened before you start the cut — a half-engaged thread will spin loose under load and can score the inside of the core barrel.
