The P201 FFP2 valved mask is a moulded cup-style respirator built for jobs where dust and airborne contaminants are a daily reality. Ultrasonic welded head straps, an adjustable nose bar and foam padding around the nose bridge all work together to give a secure, comfortable fit — the kind that actually stays in place when you’re moving around. It meets EN 149:2001+A1:2009 FFP2 NR, NIOSH N95 and AS/NZS 1716 P2, and can be used in concentrations of contaminants up to 10 times the workplace exposure limit (WEL).
Where the P201 differs from its sibling the P200 is that high-performance exhalation valve. If you’ve ever worn a non-valved mask for a full shift in summer, you’ll understand exactly why that matters. The valve lets exhaled air escape quickly, which cuts down heat and moisture build-up inside the mask. Cooler, drier, and considerably less unpleasant. Not suitable for: Not suitable for oxygen-deficient atmospheres or protection against gases and vapours. This is an FFP2 particulate respirator, not a gas mask or chemical cartridge respirator.
Put the mask on before entering a dusty environment, not once you're already in it. Hold the cup over your nose and mouth, pull the head straps over and position one above and one below the ears. Pinch the nose bar to conform it to the bridge of your nose, then check the seal by placing both hands over the mask and breathing in sharply — if air flows in around the edges rather than through the filter, adjust and retry.
The exhalation valve is passive and requires no adjustment. Dispose of the mask at the end of the shift or sooner if breathing resistance increases noticeably, the mask becomes damaged, or it gets wet.
Inspect the mask before use — check for damage to the shell, straps or valve
Cup the mask in one hand and position it over your nose and mouth
Pull both head straps over your head, positioning the upper strap above the ears and the lower strap below
Pinch the metal nose bar firmly with both hands to shape it to the bridge of your nose
Perform a positive pressure seal check by exhaling gently — air should not escape around the edges
If the seal is poor, readjust the nose bar and strap tension before entering the work area
Dispose of the mask after the shift, if it becomes wet, or if breathing resistance increases
What is the difference between the P201 and a standard FFP2 mask without a valve?
The P201 has a high-performance exhalation valve, which lets exhaled air escape more freely. This reduces heat and moisture build-up inside the mask, making it more comfortable to wear for extended periods or in warm conditions. The filtration protection level is identical to a non-valved FFP2 — the valve only affects comfort on the exhale, not inhalation filtration.
Is the P201 FFP2 valved mask suitable for asbestos work?
No. Asbestos removal and licensed asbestos work in the UK requires a minimum of FFP3-rated respiratory protection, typically a half-face or full-face respirator with an appropriate filter. The P201 is an FFP2 mask and is not rated or approved for use in asbestos environments.
The P201 is constructed from polypropylene (PP) with EVA foam padding at the nose bridge. The moulded cup shell maintains its shape in use, preventing the filter material from contacting the mouth. The exhalation valve is a passive flap-type design that opens on exhale and closes on inhale to direct airflow through the filter media.
