Firmahold A2 stainless steel framing nails are built for structural timber work where standard galvanised nails won’t last. Made from A2 grade stainless steel, these collated framing nails provide genuine corrosion resistance for external applications, exposed structures, and timbers that actively attack lesser metals. Green oak is the obvious example: it’s naturally acidic and will corrode standard nails over time. Stainless steel doesn’t have that problem.
Each box contains 1100 nails and comes with a gas canister, so you can get straight to work without a separate trip to the merchant. Three sizes are available: 50mm x 2.8mm, 63mm x 2.8mm, and 80mm x 3.1mm. Pick the size that suits your structural application and timber thickness.
The nails use a 34-degree collation angle with a clipped head profile. Clipped heads allow more nails per strip than full round heads, which means fewer reloads mid-job. On a heavy framing project, that difference adds up. Paper collation rather than plastic keeps the tool running cleanly and reduces the chance of nail jams.
Why the Ring Shank Matters on Firmahold Stainless Steel Framing Nails
The ring shank profile grips into timber fibres as it drives and won’t back out under load or movement. For roof trusses, treated timber, and any application subject to vibration or seasonal timber movement, ring shank nails offer significantly better withdrawal resistance than a plain smooth shank. The diamond point aids penetration in dense or engineered timber, reducing splitting at entry and allowing consistent drive depth.
Compliance and Standards
These stainless steel framing nails conform to Eurocode 5 and meet Service Class 3 requirements, which covers external conditions where timber is exposed to weather or high humidity. Stainless steel fixings are specifically required under building regulations for certain structural and external applications, so if you’re working to a structural engineer’s spec or submitting a building control package, these tick the right boxes without queries later.
Firmahold nails are compatible with Paslode gas framing nailers and similar tools accepting 34-degree paper collated nails. Always confirm compatibility with your specific tool model before ordering.
Pro Tip: When nailing into green oak, set your tool to slightly lower drive depth than you would for kiln-dried timber, as green oak compresses more on impact and can cause overdriving that splits along the grain.
