A magnetic bit holder is one of those tools you don’t think much about until you’ve used one, and then you wonder how you got by without it. It holds your screwdriver bit firmly in the chuck of your drill or impact driver, and the magnet at the tip keeps screws seated while you line them up. No more fumbling with fixings in awkward spots, no more screws pinging off into the void never to be seen again. Available in 75mm, 100mm and 150mm, there’s a length here to suit most applications.

The 75mm is your go-to for standard everyday driving where space isn’t an issue. The 100mm gives a bit more reach, which is useful when you’re working into recessed areas or need a little extra clearance from the chuck. The 150mm is the one to grab when you’re working deep into a stud wall, fitting decking at a distance, or just need the extra length to avoid barking your knuckles on adjacent surfaces.

Where Magnetic Bit Holders Earn Their Keep

On a busy site, any tool that speeds up a repetitive task is worth its place in the bag. Fitting plasterboard, decking, battening, cladding, kitchen units, and timber framing all involve driving a lot of screws in succession. The magnetic tip means you can load a screw one-handed and drive it without it dropping, which matters when you’re working at height or in tight corners where using two hands isn’t always an option.

These holders are compatible with standard 1/4 inch hex shank bits, which covers the vast majority of PZ, PH, TX, and flat bits in common use. If you run an impact driver, these work just as well there. The hex connection is solid and there’s no slop or wobble once seated.

At under a quid each, it also makes sense to keep a few spare. Leave one in the drill bag, one in the belt pouch, and put one in the drawer for the day the others disappear. They always do.

Pro Tip: When working overhead or on a steep pitch, use the 150mm holder to keep the drill body further from the fixing point, it reduces wrist strain noticeably over a long day of driving.
