The Marcrist CCU850X drills through 75-80% of all building materials completely dry. Patented segment design, guaranteed no segment loss, and fast cutting on everything from brick to granite. One of the most capable universal diamond cores available.
The Marcrist CCU850X diamond core is about as close to a universal core drill bit as you are likely to find on site. Designed to drill 75-80% of all common building materials dry, the CCU850X handles brick, block, concrete, stone, and even granite without needing a water feed. If you have ever been halfway through a job and had to stop because your core was not up to the material, this is the bit that sorts that problem out.
Most diamond cores are optimised for a narrow range of materials. Wet cores cut well through hard concrete but struggle dry. Dry cores handle brick and block but bog down in harder substrates. The Marcrist CCU850X sits in neither camp, which is what makes it genuinely useful for tradespeople who encounter a mix of materials across different jobs. Electricians, plumbers, heating engineers, and builders alike reach for a core like this when the material in the wall is anyone’s guess.
What the Marcrist CCU850X Diamond Core Actually Does Differently
The key is in Marcrist’s patented segment design. The segments are engineered to self-sharpen as they cut, maintaining consistent speed through varied materials rather than glazing over when the going gets tough. Segment loss is a real frustration with cheaper cores, especially on abrasive materials where the bond can fail under heat and stress. Marcrist guarantees no segment loss on the CCU850X, which is a serious claim and one they back with their build quality.
It drills wet or dry. On softer materials, you can go straight in dry. On harder aggregates or lightly reinforced concrete, you can introduce water if you want to extend bit life further, though the core is entirely capable of working without it. That flexibility is practical rather than a box-ticking exercise.
Service Voucher
Each CCU850X comes with one free service voucher. Collect ten and Marcrist will service the core for free, which is a useful benefit if you are running these regularly on site. Not every tool manufacturer offers that kind of aftercare, and it does reduce the long-term cost of ownership on a bit that already earns its keep.
At 22mm x 400mm, this size is well suited to cable and conduit runs, single pipe penetrations, and service entry holes through standard masonry. The 400mm length gives enough reach for most wall thicknesses without needing an extension.
Pro Tip: When drilling dry into harder materials like engineering brick or dense aggregate block, keep the RPM moderate and let the segments do the work without forcing the drill forward, as excessive pressure generates heat that shortens segment life far faster than the cutting action itself.
