Nylon Speed Plug Plasterboard Fixing
£3.61£4.33 EX VATINC VAT
A quick-fit, light duty plasterboard fixing with a 3-point tip for fast insertion and a cross recess head for easy installation. Non-conductive nylon construction makes these a solid choice for electrical work. Sold in boxes of 100.
The nylon speed plug plasterboard fixing is a light duty cavity fixing designed for fast, straightforward installation into plasterboard walls and ceilings. The 3-point tip bites into the board as you push it home, which means no messing about trying to hold a fixing in place while you fumble for a screwdriver. Get it in, drive the screw, done. For most boards you can push these in by hand without any pre-drilling at all.
The cross recess head accepts a standard Pozi or cross-head driver, so there’s no fussing about with specialist bits. Whatever’s already in your drill or on your belt will do the job. That alone saves time when you’re fixing dozens of them in a row.
Where Nylon Speed Plug Plasterboard Fixings Work Best
One thing worth knowing: nylon is non-conductive. That makes these fixings a genuinely practical choice for electrical installation work, anywhere you’re mounting back boxes, cable clips, or light switch plates directly to a plasterboard surface. Metal fixings in that kind of environment introduce a small but unnecessary risk. These don’t. It’s a simple material choice that makes a difference in the right setting.
They’re rated as light duty, so they’re suited to everyday items: mirrors, shelving brackets, picture frames, cable management, lightweight switch plates, and similar. They won’t carry the load of a wall-mounted television or a heavy cabinet. For that you’d want a toggle or a butterfly anchor. Know your load, pick the right fixing. It’s not complicated, but it does matter.
A Note on Harder Plasterboards
On standard plasterboard these push straight in. On denser or thicker boards — some fire-rated boards, for example, or older, harder stock — you may need to pre-drill a 6mm hole first. It takes ten seconds with a drill and saves you cracking the face of the board by forcing a fixing that doesn’t want to go. Worth keeping a 6mm bit handy on site just in case.
Screws are not included with these fixings. A standard No. 8 or equivalent screw to suit your load is all that’s needed. Sold in boxes of 100, these are well suited to anyone who goes through fixings at any kind of pace. Electricians, drylining contractors, general builders, and first-fixers will all find a use for them on most jobs.
Pro Tip: On harder or denser plasterboards, pre-drill a 6mm hole before insertion to avoid splitting the board face and to keep the fixing seated cleanly flush.
