POZI Impact Driver Bits – PZ – Double Ended – No.3 x 65 (2 pcs)
£2.45£2.94 EX VATINC VAT
Double ended PZ3 impact driver bits, 65mm long, sold in pairs. Heat-treated torsion zone design handles the hammer and rotation of impact drivers without snapping. Black phosphate finish resists corrosion. A proper bit for a proper job.
The 65mm PZ3 double ended impact driver bit is the kind of consumable that quietly determines how your day goes. Get a decent one and you’ll barely think about it. Get a cheap one and you’ll be fishing snapped tips out of screw heads before the first tea break. These bits are built specifically for impact drivers, not just tolerant of them, and that distinction matters more than it sounds.
Standard driver bits are hardened all the way through, which is fine for a regular drill driver but creates a problem under impact. When the hammer mechanism kicks in, a fully hardened bit has nowhere for that energy to go except into the tip, which is where things start snapping. These bits deal with that by incorporating a dedicated torsion zone in the body, a section where the steel is intentionally softer. That gives the bit enough flex to absorb the rotational shock before it reaches the business end. Think of it as a crumple zone for your screwdriving.
What Sets These PZ3 Impact Driver Bits Apart
The heat treatment process used here is worth a mention. Getting the metallurgy right on impact bits means achieving a balance: hard enough at the tip to drive without rounding off, softer at the body to handle load without fracturing. A poorly treated bit gets one of those right, not both. These are designed to achieve both, giving you a bit that maintains its shape at the tip even after repeated use in tougher materials like hardwood, engineered timber, and dense sheet goods.
The black phosphate finish is functional as well as cosmetic. It reduces surface friction slightly during driving and provides a meaningful level of corrosion resistance, which matters if your bits live in a van drawer or a site box through a British winter. Not stainless steel, obviously, but far better than a bare steel bit that starts rusting after the first wet Tuesday.
The double ended format is straightforward and useful. When one end wears or chips, flip the bit and carry on. You effectively get two bits for the price of one, which at site consumable volumes adds up. Each bit is 65mm long, making them compatible with standard quick-release bit holders and magnetic extension bars. The PZ3 size is the one you want for larger format screws, structural fixings, and decking work where smaller sizes just won’t cut it.
Pro Tip: When driving long structural screws, use a bit holder rather than chucking the bit directly into the driver as this reduces the leverage on the bit shank and noticeably extends tip life.
