The Prodec Advance Precision Edge UV Resistant Masking Tape is a step up from the standard rolls you find on the decorating shelf. It has been developed specifically to give excellent barrier properties, meaning paint sits where you put it rather than creeping under the edge and ruining the line you spent time getting straight. If you have ever pulled back a tape to find a blurred, feathered edge instead of something clean, you will understand exactly why this tape exists.
The UV resistance is what sets it apart when you are working on jobs with natural light involved. Exterior work, conservatories, south-facing rooms with the windows open — standard masking tape can lose adhesion or become brittle when exposed to sunlight even briefly. This tape holds steady, which matters when you have applied it and then need to leave a job overnight or through a sunny afternoon before the second coat goes on.
Where Prodec Precision Edge UV Resistant Masking Tape Works Best
It is designed with delicate surfaces in mind. Freshly painted walls, coving, architraves with a satin finish, wallpaper with a painted surface — these are the situations where a standard tape can leave adhesive residue or lift the existing finish when you pull it. The Prodec Precision Edge tape applies cleanly and, crucially, removes cleanly, provided you pull it within 24 hours of application. Leave it longer and you are testing your luck, particularly in warm conditions.
Three widths are available: 24mm, 36mm and 48mm. The 24mm is the one most decorators reach for around window beads and trim. The 36mm works well for broader masking across skirting boards or glass lines. The 48mm comes into its own when you want a wider buffer zone on large flat surfaces or are cutting in against a ceiling without a steady hand that day.
A Note on Application
Apply with firm but not heavy pressure. Pressing too hard can key the adhesive into a textured surface and make removal harder than it needs to be. Run a finger or a clean cloth along the edge you want to seal rather than the whole width. That is where the barrier matters. Always test on an inconspicuous area first if you are unsure about the surface, particularly on wallpapers or delicate painted finishes. Some highly patterned or coated wallpapers simply are not suitable for masking tape of any kind.
Pro Tip: When removing the tape, pull back at a low angle, almost parallel to the surface rather than straight off, and do it slowly. This keeps the adhesive intact on the tape rather than leaving it on your freshly painted surface.
Used by decorators for interior and exterior painting wherever a clean, defined edge is needed. Common applications include cutting in between walls and ceilings, masking glazing bars and window frames, protecting skirting boards during wall painting, and separating two colours on a feature wall. The UV resistance makes it a practical choice for conservatory work and any exterior decorating where the tape may be exposed to direct sunlight between coats.

Not suitable for: Not suitable for all wallpapers, particularly highly patterned, coated or delicate papers where the adhesive may cause damage on removal. Always test on a hidden area before full application.
Apply the tape to a clean, dry surface before painting begins. Press along the edge you want to protect using light, even pressure, and run a fingertip along the critical edge to ensure a good seal. Avoid pressing across the full width of the tape with heavy force, as this can make removal more difficult on textured surfaces.
Remove the tape within 24 hours of application. Pull back slowly at a shallow angle, almost parallel to the surface, to keep the line clean and avoid any adhesive residue. If the paint film is very fresh, score lightly along the tape edge with a knife before removal to prevent any lifting.
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust or grease before applying
- Tear or cut the tape to the required length before positioning
- Apply the tape to the edge you want to protect, pressing lightly into place
- Run a fingertip firmly along the paint-side edge of the tape to ensure a clean seal
- Apply your paint coat and allow it to become touch dry before removal
- Remove the tape within 24 hours, pulling back slowly at a low angle to the surface
- If paint has bridged across the tape edge, score lightly with a knife before peeling
Can I leave the Prodec Precision Edge tape on overnight between coats?
Yes, that is fine. The tape is designed to be removed within 24 hours of application. Leaving it overnight between coats is well within that window. Just do not leave it on significantly longer, particularly in warm or sunny conditions, as the adhesive can become harder to remove cleanly.
Is this tape safe to use on wallpaper?
It depends on the wallpaper. Painted surfaces and some vinyl wallpapers can be fine with careful application, but highly patterned, delicate or coated papers carry a real risk of damage on removal. Always test on a small, hidden area first and apply without excessive pressure.
The Prodec Advance Precision Edge tape uses a UV stabilised adhesive system that maintains bond integrity under direct sunlight without becoming brittle or losing tack prematurely. The backing is a crepe paper construction, giving flexibility around curves and profiles while the adhesive is formulated for clean, residue-free removal from sensitive surfaces within the recommended 24-hour window.
