From£16.90Typically £17.90Save £1.00 (20+ Units)
A pink-tinted SBR bonding primer built for plasterers. Better adhesion, moisture resistance and flexibility than standard PVA. The pink colour makes missed patches obvious before you skim, which saves arguments later.

Plasterers Blend Pink SBR Primer is a styrene-butadiene rubber bonding agent designed specifically for plastering applications. Where standard PVA can dry out too quickly, leave patchy coverage or fail in damp conditions, this SBR primer holds fast, stays flexible and gives you a solid base to skim onto. The pink colour is deliberate: it shows you exactly where the primer has been applied before you put a trowel near it.
SBR has been the preferred bonding agent for serious plasterers for decades. It outperforms PVA on most surfaces because it doesn’t re-emulsify when wet plaster hits it. That means the bond stays intact during application rather than softening and losing grip. On absorbent backgrounds especially, dense block, porous brick, patched areas, or old cement renders, that difference matters.
Where Plasterers Blend Pink SBR Primer Earns Its Keep
This primer is most useful when you’re dealing with mixed backgrounds. A wall that’s part plasterboard, part solid, part patched repair is a nightmare to skim without a consistent suction rate. Applying Plasterers Blend Pink SBR across the whole surface evens things out, giving the finishing coat something consistent to bond with. It also works well as a slurry bond coat when mixed with cement for bonding new render to smooth or low-suction substrates.
The 5L size is a practical working quantity. It’ll cover a decent area diluted for priming or used neat on problem patches. Easier to move around site than a 25L drum, and you’re not committing to volume you might not use on a smaller job.
Pink Versus Clear: Why the Colour Actually Matters
Clear SBR is fine, but on a busy site you’ll miss patches. Pink makes coverage visible at a glance. It sounds like a small thing but when you’re skimming a full room and suction goes wrong in one corner, you’ll know exactly why it went wrong and where the gap is. Designed by plasterers, that detail was clearly thought through.
Pro Tip: Dilute at around 1 part SBR to 3 parts water for general priming, but use it neat or at 1:1 on very smooth, low-suction surfaces like painted walls or dense engineering brick where adhesion will be tested.
