The end feed equal tee is one of those fittings you reach for more than almost anything else on a plumbing job. Whether you’re branching off a main flow on a domestic heating system or adding a supply point on a commercial install, this fitting does exactly what it says: it splits one run into three, with all outlets the same size. These are WRAS approved, which matters if you’re working on any potable water application or a job where the client or inspector will be checking compliance.
End feed fittings work by soldering. You push the pipe in, apply flux, heat with a torch, and feed solder into the joint. The capillary gap in the fitting draws the solder in and forms a solid, leak-free connection when done correctly. No pre-loaded solder ring to worry about, which means you’re in control of the amount of solder you use. Plenty of experienced plumbers prefer end feed over Yorkshire fittings for that reason alone.
Where the End Feed Equal Tee Gets Used
These fittings are available in 22mm, 28mm and 35mm, covering the most common pipe sizes in UK plumbing. The 22mm is the workhorse size for most hot and cold domestic pipework, the 28mm suits central heating flow and return circuits, and the 35mm is more at home on commercial systems or larger plant room pipework. All three are compatible with standard copper tube to EN 1057.
WRAS Approval and Why It Counts
WRAS approval means the fitting has been independently assessed and confirmed as suitable for contact with drinking water. If you’re fitting out a property for rental, a commercial kitchen, or anywhere that the water regs apply strictly, you want that approval mark. It’s not just a nice-to-have. Some water authorities and building inspectors will ask for it specifically, so having it on your fitting avoids any awkward conversations later.
Available in singles, boxes of 10 or boxes of 25, these end feed equal tees are priced for trade. Buying in bulk is the obvious move if you’re fitting out a whole system rather than chasing a single leak.
Pro Tip: Always ream and deburr the pipe end before fitting an end feed tee, even if the cut looks clean; a burr inside the fitting interrupts solder flow and you will not see the cold joint until there is water in the pipe.
End feed equal tees are used wherever a copper pipe run needs branching into a third direction at the same diameter. On domestic jobs that typically means adding a feed to a bathroom, splitting a heating circuit, or connecting into an existing ring main. On commercial work they appear in plant rooms, pipe chases, and larger distribution pipework. Plumbers, heating engineers and mechanical contractors all use them regularly.

Not suitable for: Not suitable for use with plastic or push-fit pipe systems without appropriate copper inserts. Not intended for use with gas pipework.
Clean the pipe end with wire wool or emery cloth until it is bright copper. Deburr the internal edge. Apply flux to both the pipe end and the inside of the fitting socket, then push the pipe fully home into the tee.
Apply heat evenly around the fitting with a blowtorch until it reaches soldering temperature. Feed solder into the joint at the point where pipe meets fitting, not directly into the flame. The solder should flow in cleanly and a small bead will appear at the socket edge when the joint is full. Allow to cool naturally before pressure testing.
Cut the copper pipe squarely using a pipe slice or hacksaw
Ream and deburr the cut end inside and out
Clean the pipe end with wire wool or emery cloth to a bright finish
Clean the inside of the tee sockets in the same way
Apply flux to the pipe ends and inside each socket of the tee
Push the pipes fully into all three sockets
Heat the fitting evenly with a blowtorch until flux bubbles and clears
Feed lead-free solder into each joint at the socket rim until a full ring appears
Remove heat and allow the joints to cool without disturbing them
Wipe excess flux with a damp cloth once cool and pressure test before closing in
What is the difference between an end feed tee and a solder ring tee?
A solder ring tee, sometimes called a Yorkshire fitting, has a pre-loaded ring of solder inside the socket. An end feed tee has no solder pre-loaded, so you feed solder in yourself once the fitting is up to temperature. End feed fittings are generally cheaper and give you more control over the joint, but they require a slightly more experienced hand to get consistently good results.
Are these fittings suitable for drinking water systems?
Yes. These end feed equal tees carry WRAS approval, which means they have been tested and confirmed as suitable for use in contact with potable water. They are appropriate for domestic and commercial drinking water installations where compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations is required.
Can I use these on a central heating system as well as cold water?
Yes, end feed copper fittings are used across both heating and water systems. The key thing on a heating system is to use a good quality flux and ensure joints are fully made before the system is pressurised. Using lead-free solder is standard practice regardless of the application.
These end feed equal tees are manufactured from copper and approved to WRAS standards for use in potable water systems. Compatible with copper tube to EN 1057, the capillary socket design is sized to accept standard tube with a consistent gap for solder penetration. All three outlets are equal diameter, making them suitable for straight branch connections without any reducers required.
