The end feed equal tee is one of those fittings you reach for more than almost anything else on a plumbing job. Whether you’re branching off a main flow on a domestic heating system or adding a supply point on a commercial install, this fitting does exactly what it says: it splits one run into three, with all outlets the same size. These are WRAS approved, which matters if you’re working on any potable water application or a job where the client or inspector will be checking compliance.
End feed fittings work by soldering. You push the pipe in, apply flux, heat with a torch, and feed solder into the joint. The capillary gap in the fitting draws the solder in and forms a solid, leak-free connection when done correctly. No pre-loaded solder ring to worry about, which means you’re in control of the amount of solder you use. Plenty of experienced plumbers prefer end feed over Yorkshire fittings for that reason alone.
Where the End Feed Equal Tee Gets Used
These fittings are available in 22mm, 28mm and 35mm, covering the most common pipe sizes in UK plumbing. The 22mm is the workhorse size for most hot and cold domestic pipework, the 28mm suits central heating flow and return circuits, and the 35mm is more at home on commercial systems or larger plant room pipework. All three are compatible with standard copper tube to EN 1057.
WRAS Approval and Why It Counts
WRAS approval means the fitting has been independently assessed and confirmed as suitable for contact with drinking water. If you’re fitting out a property for rental, a commercial kitchen, or anywhere that the water regs apply strictly, you want that approval mark. It’s not just a nice-to-have. Some water authorities and building inspectors will ask for it specifically, so having it on your fitting avoids any awkward conversations later.
Available in singles, boxes of 10 or boxes of 25, these end feed equal tees are priced for trade. Buying in bulk is the obvious move if you’re fitting out a whole system rather than chasing a single leak.
Pro Tip: Always ream and deburr the pipe end before fitting an end feed tee, even if the cut looks clean; a burr inside the fitting interrupts solder flow and you will not see the cold joint until there is water in the pipe.
