Mirror Screw Dome – Chrome

The chrome dome mirror screw is the standard way to hang a mirror where the fixing itself needs to look good. A bare countersunk screw through glass is fine in a utility room nobody sees — but anywhere customer-facing, residential, or simply finished properly, you want the dome cap. The polished chrome finish sits flush and neat against the mirror face, covering the screw head completely and giving the whole installation a clean, considered look.

Each screw comes with a rubber washer, which sits between the dome cap and the mirror surface. That washer is doing more work than it looks like — glass and metal together without any buffer is a combination that ends in cracks, usually at the worst possible moment. The rubber absorbs the pressure and protects the mirror edge around the fixing hole. It also stops the chrome cap from scratching the face of the mirror during fitting, which matters on anything decorative.

Where Chrome Dome Mirror Screws Are Used

These are used across a wide range of trades and settings. Bathroom fitters use them constantly — frameless mirrors over vanity units, cloakroom mirrors, full-height bedroom mirrors. Shop fitters use them in changing rooms, retail displays, and anywhere a mirror needs to be wall-mounted without a frame hiding the fixing. Glaziers specify them for safety mirrors and decorative glass panels. The chrome dome mirror screw is also common in gyms, dance studios, and commercial spaces where large mirrors are fixed to wall boards or tiled surfaces.

The slotted recess on each screw means a standard flat-head screwdriver does the job — no specialist bits needed, which is worth knowing when you are three storeys up with a limited toolkit. The dome cap threads on once the screw is fixed, covering the head and completing the finish in seconds.

A Note on Hole Size

A 6mm hole is required through the mirror before fitting. This is standard for this type of fixing — get it drilled cleanly with a diamond-tipped glass drill bit, use water cooling to prevent heat build-up, and take your time. A rushed hole in glass is one of those jobs that only goes wrong once before you start doing it properly. Once the hole is clean and the screw is in, the dome cap covers everything and the result looks exactly as it should.
