The end feed crossover is one of those fittings that does not get a lot of attention until you actually need one, and then suddenly it is the most important fitting in your bag. When two copper pipes need to cross each other in a tight space without connecting, this is the fitting that makes it work cleanly. Available in 15mm, these WRAS approved fittings are suitable for use in potable water systems, which means they meet the regulatory requirements for drinking water installations across the UK.
End feed fittings rely on solder to form the joint, which gives a permanent, leak-free connection when done correctly. There are no pre-loaded solder rings here, so you have full control over the amount of solder used and where it flows. For experienced plumbers, that is often the preferred approach, particularly in awkward positions or where heat distribution needs managing carefully.
Where the End Feed Crossover Gets Used
The crossover is most commonly seen in panel heating systems, cylinder cupboards, and manifold arrangements where multiple pipework runs occupy the same wall or floor space. Commercial and light industrial installations use them regularly, and domestic plumbers encounter them in boiler plant rooms and tight airing cupboard runs where re-routing every pipe individually simply is not practical.
Full vs Part Crossover
This fitting is available in two configurations. The full crossover has both ends sweeping over the centre, giving maximum clearance between the two pipe runs. The part crossover has one straight end and one swept end, which is useful when one pipe is already fixed and you only need to route the other up and over it. Choosing the right option before you start saves time and avoids unnecessary fittings on the job.
Sold in boxes of 10, these are priced for trade use. Whether you are fitting one as part of a larger system or stocking the van, the WRAS approval means you are covered for potable water applications without a second thought.
Pro Tip: When soldering an end feed crossover, heat the centre body evenly before applying solder to each socket individually, as the extra mass of the crossover body means it draws more heat than a standard straight coupler.
