The Rawlplug R-KEM II is a styrene-free polyester resin anchor system built for bonded fixing in non-cracked concrete and solid masonry. If you’ve used older polyester resins and gotten a faceful of that sharp styrene smell, this one’s a notable improvement on site. It carries EAD 330499-01-0601 approval and is rated for a working life of up to 100 years, which is about as reassuring as anchor approvals get.
The R-KEM II is aimed squarely at medium load capacity work — the kind of day-to-day anchoring jobs where mechanical fixings are awkward, undersized, or just not suitable. Threaded rod setting, anchor bolts into block or brick, post fixings, and general structural attachments in non-cracked substrates are all within its scope. It’s not overengineered for light hanging work, but it’s genuinely capable where loads matter.
Where the Rawlplug R-KEM II Earns Its Place
One of the more practical features is the patented self-opening system on the cartridge. No fumbling with foil seals or wasted first pulls — it opens cleanly and dispenses consistently through a standard static mixing nozzle. You can use it with a manual silicone gun, which keeps the barrier to entry low if you’re not running an electric dispensing gun on site.
A partly used cartridge can be resealed and reused once you fit a fresh nozzle, so there’s no pressure to burn through a whole cartridge in one session. That’s a real saving on longer projects with multiple anchor points spread across the working day.
Cold Weather Use
A winter-grade version is available with faster cure times, rated for use down to -20°C. Worth knowing if you’re working through the colder months on exposed structures or in unheated buildings where standard resins slow to a crawl.
Pro Tip: Always mix off the first 10–15ml of resin from a new cartridge or after reattaching a nozzle, as the ratio at the very start of dispensing can be off and will compromise cure strength.
