Black cable ties are one of those things that end up on every job, in every van, and somehow never quite where you left them. These nylon self-locking ties are available in fourteen sizes ranging from a compact 100 x 2.5mm all the way up to a substantial 1020 x 9.0mm, so whether you are bundling a handful of data cables behind a panel or strapping conduit runs together on a plant installation, there is a size that fits without doubling back on itself or going slack.

The black colouring is not just for appearances. UV stabilised black nylon offers meaningfully better resistance to sunlight degradation than natural ties, which makes these a sensible choice for outdoor installations, plant rooms, cable trays running near rooflights, or any situation where ties will be exposed to daylight for extended periods. Natural white ties in the same conditions will eventually become brittle and snap without much warning, which is not ideal when you find out six months after the job.

Where Black Cable Ties Work Hardest

On the electrical side, these are the default choice for panel wiring, consumer unit dressing, and armoured cable identification. Mechanical and HVAC trades use the larger sizes for securing insulation, fixing flexible duct, and organising hydraulic hose runs. The 290 x 7.6mm and 370 x 4.8mm sizes are particularly useful for general securing work where a smaller tie would not have the pull strength and a larger one would be overkill.

Choosing the Right Width and Length

Length determines the maximum bundle diameter you can close the tie around. Width determines the locking strength and how much load the tail can take before the head fails. For anything carrying real mechanical load, the 7.6mm and 9.0mm wide ties are the right choice. The narrower 2.5mm and 3.6mm sizes are fine for light cable management where neatness matters more than grip force.

Sold in packs of 100, these black cable ties represent decent value for everyday trade use. Buying across several sizes at once keeps the van stocked and the callbacks down.

Pro Tip: When fitting cable ties in cold conditions, warm a handful in your pocket first as nylon becomes noticeably more brittle below about 5 degrees C and the tails can snap clean off mid-tighten.
