The Classic ZYP hinge screw is a purpose-built fixing for continuous and piano hinges, where a standard screw head simply won’t do. At 3.0 x 12mm, this is the kind of screw that most suppliers don’t stock as standard, which is exactly why we do. The reduced 5mm head is the key detail here — it sits flush and clear within the narrow countersinks of piano and continuous hinge leaf, where a full-sized head would either foul the hinge action or simply refuse to sit flat. A small thing that makes a big difference.

The ZYP (zinc-yellow passivated) finish gives the screw a decent level of corrosion resistance for internal joinery applications. It’s not a coastal marine coating, but it handles the moisture exposure you’d expect in a workshop or interior door environment without going rusty on you three months in.

Sharp point only on these — no self-drilling tip. That’s standard for this type of application. Piano hinge leaf is thin and pre-drilled, so a sharp point is what you want: clean entry, accurate placement, no wandering. If you’re fitting continuous hinge to MDF cabinet carcasses, kitchen units, or internal doors, just make sure you’re drilling pilot holes in the timber side first. MDF near an edge doesn’t forgive you for skipping that step.
