Diamond Core Ejector Drift Key
£0.75£0.90 EX VATINC VAT
A simple, solid drift key for ejecting pilot drill bits and arbors from diamond core drill bits. Keeps the job moving without fuss. Every core drilling kit needs one somewhere at the bottom of the bag.
The diamond core drift key is one of those tools that barely gets a second thought until you need it and don’t have one. It’s the standard tool used to eject the pilot drill bit, also known as the pilot pin or arbor, from a diamond core bit after drilling. A quick tap through the slot, and out it comes. Simple as that.
Diamond core bits are used on masonry, concrete, brick, and block for clean, precise holes used in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general construction work. The pilot drill sits inside the core to keep everything centred during the cut, but once the hole is done, it needs to come out. That’s where the drift key earns its keep. Without it, you’re improvising with whatever’s to hand, which is never a great idea when you’re working near cutting edges.
Why Every Core Drilling Kit Needs a Diamond Core Drift Key
The drift key is a hardened steel tool machined to fit the ejector slot on standard core drill arbors and holders. It applies even, controlled force to push the pilot pin free without damaging the thread or the arbor body. Using a screwdriver or a bit of scrap bar to do the same job is the kind of shortcut that strips threads and causes grief later in the day.
At this price point, there’s no reason not to have a spare. They turn up on every core drilling job and they have a habit of going walkabout on busy sites. Keeping a couple in the toolbox saves the usual ten minutes of hunting around before you can crack on.
Compatible with most standard diamond core drill arbors and pilot drill assemblies. If you’re running a core drilling setup regularly, this is just a sensible thing to have in stock.
Pro Tip: When ejecting the pilot pin, support the core bit firmly before striking the drift key so the bit doesn't drop and chip the diamond segments on the floor.
