An SDS holesaw arbor is the bit that connects your holesaw to your drill, and getting the right one matters more than people think. Use the wrong size and you either can’t fit the saw or it runs off-centre and tears up your work. These arbors come in two variants: A1 for holesaws between 14mm and 30mm, and A2 for the bigger stuff from 31mm up to 152mm. Both are designed to fit SDS drills, which is the standard for most cordless and hammer drill setups on site today.

The SDS shank gives a locked, positive engagement in the drill chuck. No wobble, no slipping mid-cut, which makes a real difference when you’re pushing a large holesaw through brick, timber or plasterboard. If you’ve ever had a holesaw work loose halfway through a 100mm hole, you’ll know exactly why the connection point matters. The SDS fitting locks in with a simple push-and-click, so there’s no messing about with Allen keys or hex adapters on site.

SDS Holesaw Arbor Sizes Explained

The A1 arbor handles the smaller end of the range, 14mm to 30mm, which covers most electrical knockout and smaller pipe holes. The A2 takes you from 32mm up to 152mm, which is where most of the plumbing, HVAC and cable tray work sits. Worth keeping one of each in the bag if you’re regularly switching between holesaw sizes, because swapping arbors mid-job is one of those small annoyances that adds up across a day.

Compatibility Note

These arbors use a standard quick-release pilot drill system. Check that your holesaws use a compatible thread and pin-lock mechanism before ordering, as some proprietary holesaw brands use their own fitment. The vast majority of standard bi-metal and carbide holesaws will seat correctly on these arbors without any modification.

At this price, keeping a spare on the van makes sense. Arbors take a beating and a worn or damaged one will affect cut quality even if the holesaw itself is still sharp.

Pro Tip: Always check your pilot drill is fully seated and locked before starting a cut, a loose pilot on a large holesaw will wander and can snap the bit or damage the arbor thread.
