The Manthorpe GRS-FF Face-Fix Radiator Pipe Seal is a twin plate sealing system designed for 10mm flexible plastic barrier pipework — the type commonly used in modern central heating installations. It seals the pipework penetration behind a radiator, preventing air leakage through the wall while also producing a clean, finished appearance at the detail. Two stages of the installation are covered by one product, which is a reasonable way to work.
The first fix mount plate anchors the pipework at the correct exit point from the wall. Guide channels built into the plate curve the pipe towards the valve positions at the outer corners of the radiator, keeping the run smooth and eliminating the risk of kinks or chafing along the exposed section. This is particularly useful when the pipework transitions from inside the wall cavity to the visible run beneath the radiator, where an unsupported bend can cause problems over time.
How the Manthorpe GRS-FF Twin Plate System Works
Once the plasterboard is fitted over the mount plate, the cover plate drops over the pipe and fixes back with a single central screw. Critically, that screw secures into the mount plate itself rather than into the surrounding plasterboard, so there is no need for plasterboard fixings close to the cut edge of the pipe opening, where the board is at its weakest. Flexible grommets seal around the pipe while still allowing some directional adjustment.
The mount plate includes multiple pilot hole locations, giving enough flexibility to accommodate different plasterboard thicknesses and radiator offsets. It works with blockwork and stud wall constructions, so it suits most domestic and light commercial new build situations where this type of pipework is used.
Pro Tip: When fitting the mount plate at first fix, take a moment to check the radiator bracket positions before committing the pipe exit point, as even a small offset can make the cover plate look skewed once the room is finished.
