The ProDec Advance Precision Edge Masking Tape is built for decorators who want a clean line first time, every time. Made from Japanese rice paper, it has a natural density that acts as a proper barrier against paint and varnish, so you get a crisp edge rather than the blurred, bled mess that cheaper tapes leave behind. If you’ve ever had to touch up a skirting board because the tape let you down, you’ll appreciate why the base material matters.
The adhesive is where this tape earns its keep. It grips firmly to a wide range of surfaces without lifting, bubbling or shifting mid-job, and when you peel it back it comes away cleanly, leaving no sticky residue behind. That matters on painted walls, glass, and finished woodwork where adhesive ghosting would mean extra cleaning or repainting.
Where ProDec Advance Precision Edge Masking Tape Gets Used
This tape is a go-to for masking skirting boards, architraves, window sills, glazing bars, switches, sockets and mouldings. It works on bare and previously painted surfaces, provided the existing paint has fully cured, which in practice means at least 28 days old. Freshly painted surfaces are a different story, so if you’re cutting in over recent work, test a small area first.
A Note on Removal Timing
Prodec recommend removing this tape within 24 hours of application. That’s good advice. Leave any masking tape on too long, especially over a warm weekend or in a heated room, and even a quality product can become harder to remove cleanly. Peel it back at a low angle for the sharpest result.
Available in 24mm, 36mm and 48mm widths, each on a 50m roll, so there’s enough on a single roll to mask a full set of window frames, a staircase flight, or a decent stretch of cornice without running short halfway through.
Pro Tip: Peel the tape back at around 45 degrees rather than straight up, pulling slowly and steadily against the paint edge to get the cleanest possible line without chipping the finish.
Primarily used by decorators for cutting clean lines along skirting boards, architraves, window frames, glazing, coving and cornices. It handles painted walls, bare plaster, glass, metal, MDF and finished timber without issue. Useful for sign writers masking glass or painted panels, and for tiling work where you want to protect adjacent surfaces during grouting or sealing.

- Available in 24mm, 36mm and 48mm widths
Not suitable for: Not suitable for use on freshly painted surfaces that have cured for less than 28 days. Always test on a small, out-of-the-way area before full application on delicate or previously painted finishes.
Apply the tape firmly along the edge you want to protect, pressing it down with a finger or a wallpaper seam roller to ensure full contact, particularly at corners and curves. Work in manageable lengths to keep the line accurate.
Paint or varnish over the tape edge as normal. Remove within 24 hours while the coating is still slightly flexible, peeling back slowly at a low angle against the painted edge. Pulling too steeply or too quickly on a hard-dried finish can chip the paint back from the line.
- Clean and dry the surface before applying tape to ensure good adhesion
- Apply the tape along the masking line, pressing firmly with your finger along the full length
- Use a seam roller or similar tool on detailed mouldings and tight curves to seat the edge properly
- Apply paint or varnish in your normal way, keeping strokes moving away from the tape edge
- Remove the tape within 24 hours, before the coating has fully hardened
- Peel back slowly at a shallow angle, pulling against the painted edge for the cleanest line
How long can I leave the ProDec Advance Precision Edge tape on before removing it?
ProDec recommend removing it within 24 hours of application. Left longer, particularly in warm or heated rooms, the adhesive can become harder to remove cleanly and may affect the paint edge.
Will this tape work on a freshly painted wall?
It is designed for surfaces where paint has fully cured, which means at least 28 days old. On fresher paint the tape may pull away the surface coating when removed. If you're unsure, test on a small hidden area first.
Does the tape leave any residue when peeled off?
No. The adhesive is formulated for clean release and should not leave any sticky residue on walls, glass, woodwork or metal when removed within the recommended 24-hour window.
Constructed from Japanese rice paper, which provides a tightly formed barrier that resists paint and varnish bleed without absorbing moisture from water-based coatings. The pressure-sensitive adhesive is formulated to bond firmly on application and release cleanly without leaving residue, making it suitable for sensitive painted and finished surfaces.
